Articulation
Spawn is a McFarlane toys, uh toy. I've had mixed reactions to The McFarlane toys articulation. But surprisingly, the articulation doesn't FEEL McFarlane-ish. Feels more like a cross between Storm Collectibles and Marvel Legends.

Paint and sculpt
Here McFarlane excels. Spawn is the more modern version of him, not the earlier appearances from Kickstarter. He looks the part and has this creepy Spawn appeal. The cape is on the small-ish side, but to be fair. Getting a true to scale cape would require a much bigger price point. Also, be careful... his spikes hurt like hell!

Accessories
Here is where the shortcomings are laid bare. A mace. Sure he uses one in the game but that's not the point. But he also uses guns, his chains, his cape, necroplasm... where are those. The chain and cape add-ons are theoretically easy to make. A second head with necroplasmic glowy eyes would've been cool. No, black disk stand an accessory does not make.

Overall
Spawn gets a 3.5 as his final score. I blame the lack of accessories for his lower score. With that said, he's a nifty figure. For the first time ever I'm somewhat excited for a Spawn figure. Also, despite being 7 inches and not in 1:12 scale, he fits quite well with the Storm Collectibles Mortal Kombat figures.
