Normally I would have avoided variants in GI Joe, because I'm not that into GI Joe to gather as many variants as possible. The main exception would be Cobra Commander, because I want the life support suit even if it looks ridiculous as hell. Maybe Destro, because I like his original look. I couldn't pass on Pimp Daddy Destro because of his comedic potential. Shipwreck is the other character "variant worthy" in my eyes. I love the Village People reject version, but I also have a soft spot for badass Navy SEAL version. But back to Roadblock: Marvin Hinton is the tough badass cheff who carries the big guns into combat... but he's like a big teddy bear. Crossed with Remy the rat from Ratatouille. Both versions of him carry a big gun. Sadly, his default weapon, the M-2 Browning .50 cal machine gun is MIA... instead he has either a minigun or a railgun...
So, let's smell what Roadblock is cooking! Hey! It took me this long to make a The Rock reference...
Articulation
Both Roadblocks have similar articulation (especially since they share most of the sculpt... Head and torso being the main difference.) There are articulation is similar to Marvel Legends. The only difference between them is that HA Roadblock has a slightly freer ab crunch, since his webgear doesn't block it as much as Normal Roadblock's overlay.
Both get a 4.5
Paint and sculpt
Normal Roadblock is based on the second version of Roadblock...
While Heavy Artillery Roadblock is based on the first version. As I mentioned before, the only real differences in sculpt are on the head and torso. Normal roadblock have a much bigger beard than heavy artillery. Also heavy artillery version lacks the tattoo from the normal version. Both of them look really good, but I am biased towards HA Roadblock. I must point out that Normal Roadblock is the repainted version with less "Fortnite" colors Both get a 5.0
Accessories
This is the area where both fail.
Normal Roadblock has:
-Railgun with removable clip
-knife
Heavy Artillery Roadblock has:
-Helmet
-Gun
-Minigun with removable drum
RIP Bootleg Snake 1: Mar-15-2017 Sep-1-2021 He died being a failed clone of a much better figure. |
No extra hands or anything to boost them up.
The original Roadblock had a backpack with an ammo box. A backpack with a second Drum for the minigun would've been a nice way to boost up HA Roadblock.
The Vintage V2 Roadblock only came with a tripod for his gun, so tossing an unarticulated Snake for Cobra Commander that can wrap around Roadblock would've been a nice surprise for old school fans.
Here both get a 3.0
CC: I once wassss a man!! RB: Congratulations on your transition, Cobra Commandress CC: On ssssecond thought, I ssssstill am a Man! |
Overall:
Some will think that it's lazy that both are rated about the same. Personally I think that the heavy artillery version is slightly a bit better than the other version... but not better enough that the score would have a difference between them. At least I can mix and match equipment.
Both get a 4.17 as their final score.
