The ridiculously expensive Eternia didn't reach the 10k preorders.
It fell short for 725 preorders... Good! It was a dick move for early preorderers to get their blind commitment bonus get turned into a "participation trophy". Now it remains on the hands of the early preorderers, as it should be. Of course there's a bunch of people crying on Facebook and the like. The Revelation Grayskull wasn't incentive enough to push past the 10k mark. Blaming people who were rightfully angry/disappointed at the 10k altered deal is not the right direction at your anger for the setnot reaching the 10k orders. You should blame Mattel for nor making the set feel desirable enough to sway the doubters. The enormous price tag didn't help. Making it Vintage/Origins sized didn't help either. It made the 8k required. Everything else was meant to be "a bonus". The Moat Beast made it as the number of preorders reached its threshold. The threshold for Kecklar and Revelation Grayskull was not met.
I know it sounds "mean" being glad that not everyone is getting the Revelation Grayskull. The thing is that Mattel made Revelation Grayskull an exclusive for those who ordered the first week. Just like the subscription exclusives from the Mattycollector days.
It wouldn't have been fair if non-subscribers were able to buy the Subscription exclusives from Mattel.
The point is that Mattel took away the "exclusive reward" to the early backers WITHOUT having a replacement item for them if the 10k goal was reached. Had they replaced Revelation Grayskull with say a "pre filmation" King Randor (aka King Miro) which would be a repaint of Randor, then giving Grayskull to everyone wouldn't have felt dickish.
Just because the end result was beneficial to the customers doesn't erase the fact that it was a dick move. Altering the deal is a dick move. It's not like customers could alter the deal on their end. What if Mattel decides to alter the deal further and make the playset smaller and remove features? Is it a dick move now?
In any case, the ridiculously overpriced playset made it... be happy about that. I wouldn't be surprised if Kecklar is released as a Mattel Creations figure. Also, I await the $200 ech Origins Fright Zone and Slime Pit...
