Thanks to Shredder's Revenge DLC, we may have found a way to get a Super7 TMNT Ultimates Usagi figure... assuming they get the OK from Stan Sakai. We know that Playmates is super touchy about Super7 doing TMNT stuff. Meaning that a Vintage Toy styled Usagi might not be in the cards.
If a purely Vintage styled Usagi is NOT in the cards, taking heavier cues from Shredder's Revenge can allow Super7 a chance to have an Ultimates Usagi gracing our shelves in 2025... or later. How can they do that? I haven't got a clue... but here I'll discuss one way they COULD do him. My first suggestion is to look at the NECA figure on HOW they handled the articulation. Then look at the Vintage Playmates Figure for Body Proportions and fur sculpt details. Then marry the two to have a "Playmates styled" Usagi Yojimbo in the Unarmored look that he is mostly known for.
Now let's talk accessories:
2 heads:
One serious/Neutral Head, the other a snarling head reminiscent of the Playmates figure... without it being identical to avoid ruffling any feathers.
Weapons and other accessories:
-Scabbard for katana and wakizashi. (Worst case scenario, figure must have 2 loops to hold the swords like
-Katana and Wakizashi
-Nagamaki (long blade with really long handle. Think a Nodachi with a much longer handle. This is an indirect nod to the Vintage Usagi's Naginata without giving him a Naginata.)
-Tokage his dino/lizard companionmini buddy.
-Japanese Longbow and arrows.
-removable straw raincoat
-Japanese teacup with hot tea.
Due to the articulation on these figures, this seiza pose would be impossible. |
Vertical and horizontal C-grip, relaxed, fists, karate chop, wide C-grips for the teacup, archery hands,
*IF He has a scabbard and can be posed holding the scabbard with his left hand*, a scabbard sized C-grip left hand with the thumb up pushing the tsuba out of the scabbard.
The main influences were Shredder's Revenge, Usagi comics, random references to samurai weaponry and attire, and last but not least, the Vintage figure.
Eventually, we could get an armored Usagi as a variant, if Playmates decides to play nice as a way to have a "vintage figure inspired" look for Usagi.
