Artichoke Monk or Asparagus Carnage |
The Filmation Evil Seed is the one on the left (with the Artichoke head) the MYP Evil Seed is the one on the right. The one with the Asparagus head and popped up collar.
Now IF he gets made in the line,he'll very likely have ONE look. I'd dare say that the 200X look is the most likely one to be chosen. Now for objectivity's sake I'll post the pros and cons of each version:
Filmation Evil Seed:
Pros:
-His episode is considered a Memorable Episode.
Pros:
-His episode is considered a Memorable Episode.
-Some Body parts could be reused on Master Sebrian.
Cons:
Cons:
-Requires too much new Tooling
-He doesn't have that "Toy Factor"
MYP Evil Seed:
Pros:
-Doesn't require many new pieces (Head, Armor, Loincloth, weapons)
-Has the "Toy Factor"
-Appeared in more than one episode.
Cons:
-It's a 200X Look
I'm not being fair, aren't I? While, yes, I AM in favor of the 200X Evil Seedl; I DID look at it from a neutral point of view.
The Filmation look is rather bland. A scrawny body covered by a robe with an oversized head. Like I mentioned in the NA Character rant
The 200X Look is better than the Plain Robed Evil Seed. Filmation Evil Seed fans call this look Generic. In all fairness, MYP Evil Seed's Unleashed form Reeks of a Certain Marvel Villain... BUT while there are some similarities in looks and powers, the design HAS that "Action Figure Appeal". He Actually fought in this episode and showed his powers to make constructs out of vines. Like Carnage, or a Green Lantern. Not only that but he can join with his thorns and travel through them like Sandman or Electro.
So let's see: Interchangeable arm a la Trap Jaw or Roboto? That qualifies as an action feature.
Evil Seed: Name implies plant and gives us his role. You look at him and you get the plant dude vibe instantly.
The only real drawback is about his 200X Look, is it's a 200X look, so Vintage only fans are complaining about the 200X Version being a possibility, cause Vintage ROOLS! Filmation Evil Seed is more Mysterious, Interesting, Unique, Inspired... According to them. Now, before I continue, I need to make one thing clear: THIS IS NOT ABOUT WHICH OPTION IS CORRECT. People have their preferences and I'm OK with that. What I'm NOT OK WITH is saying that a design that consists of a Fully robed body is "Unique" and "inspired" when the whole Mysterious Robed Dude is already a trope... How is that Unique or Inspired? the whole Black Robe like the Grim Reaper is Ridiculously OVERDONE... That is not Unique. I'm not saying that the 200X Look is the most original design, since it DOES have some similarities to Marvel symbiotes. Just that it's more Toy-friendly and eye-catching than the Filmation Evil Seed.
Link to Emiliano Santalucia's blog where Toyguru e-mailed Emiliano for advice about the 20 Filmation slots... Guess who didn't make it to both of their lists?
Evil Seed!! OK, so Evil Seed not being on Toyguru's list can be expected due to the man's questionable preferences in MOTU but when a Highly Respected fan/MOTU Historian does not have Filmation Evil Seed on his top twenty list, then something is up. Maybe they prefer the 200X one, maybe they like the Filmation character but feel that others should have those spots. We don't know. We only know that Evil Seed isn't in their top 20.
Now some members of "Team Robed Artichoke" like to use an unused piece of art that shows Evil Seed as a Full-on Plant Monster. Now THIS is a bit better but, it wasn't on the cartoon so technically
it doesn't count. Now THAT Nudist Evil Seed is Action Figure Worthy... He's almost a Large Scale beast! Sadly, he is not the Evil Seed we saw in the Cartoon.
I know that a 2-for-1 Evil Seed is an Alternative some people shout for.
Thanks for the reply, Thor!
The two Evil Seeds have different body styles. The only one of those who can translate better to the buff MOTUC Bodies is the 200X one. The Filmation Evil Seed wouldn't work on the normal bodies for the same Reason Master Sebrian doesn't work in the normal bodies... also to a small extent why STAN-DOR doesn't work either... Though I want that Roided out Stan Lee... Many Sacrifices would have to be made and everyone would lose.
It's OK to prefer the Filmation version, but if you're going to call it the superior version, please give some explanation other than NOSTALGIA, duh!

If we go with the Cartoon then Master Sebrian is very important to have. Even if he doesn't have that "Action figure" appeal...Emphasis on doesn't have that "Action Figure Appeal" being a scrawny old man in a robe. Filmation Evil Seed suffers from the same problem as Sebrian. Also, he suffers from the Geldor problem: In his single Appearance, all he did was STAND AROUND DOING NOTHING!! Again, Scrawny Robed dude who stands around and does NOTHING except dying. His "Tree" did all the dirty work. (and it died too!)
