This time I'm talking about the "Mentors"... Or the characters that fit the Mentor Archetype in MOTU...
“Mentors provide heroes with motivation, inspiration, guidance, training, and gifts for the journey. Every hero is guided by something, and a story without some acknowledgement of this energy is incomplete. Whether expressed as an actual character or as an internalized code of behavior, the Mentor archetype is a powerful tool at the writer’s command”Who are the characters that fit this role in MOTU?
-Duncan: Royal Man-at-Arms of Eternia
-Teela-Na: Sorceress of Grayskull
-The Goddess
-Master Sebrian
-Madame Razz
-Eldor
-The Preternian Oracle
-Light Hope
I've talked about some characters from that list already... Some we already have in figure form. Other's I've poked fun at their attire in other rants. but all of them have their importance as Mentors in MOTU...
So, let's go through a brief description of them and their role.
Man-at-Arms (Duncan): Teela's adoptive father, General of the Eternos Army, Weaponmaster of Eternos, Adam's Teacher. In the MOTUC Canon he builds some of the vehicles that Adam/He-Man use, he built the Techno Sword that Adam used until combining the 2 halves of the Power Sword.
The Sorceress of Grayskull:(Teela-Na) Teela's Mother, Keeper of the Secrets of Castle Grayskull, Spiritual guide to Adam (and sometimes Adora).
The Goddess: While her role in MOTUC is very small, due to most of her role resting on the Sorceress; she IS important because she WAS the Sorceress in the Pre-Filmation Mini Comics. In MOTUC her Tagline is Trainer of He-Man... Therefore, Mentor!
Eldor: The old Man in a Hoodie himself! He fills this role of Mentor For He-Ro. He was supposed to guide him and help him improve as a wizard.
The Preternian Oracle: He's King Grayskull's Mentor in the 2002 Cartoon. In Classics canon HE-RO and ELDOR are with King Grayskull. (We must assume they are Grayskull's Mentors) but back to the Oracle. He taught Grayskull about the Power within himself, inspired him to be better and gave him back his lost sword. So, that's why Oracle fills his role of Mentor/
Madame Razz: Yes, she is silly, pointless to some, but she IS one of Adora's mentors on Etheria. While not the most competent, she was used far more often than Light Hope.
Light Hope: the one impossible to make as an action figure... Seriously, he's a Diorama... and Adora/She-Ra's Mentor when STUFF gets real.
Last but not Least, Master Sebrian: Adam's guide in Primus during He-Man's new Adventures. Since there is no New Adventures Adam in the MOTUC Canon (New Adventures He-Man is Adam once he becomes He-Man 24/7) and Sebrian would require too much new tooling, I don't know where he stands on the Neitlichverse. the important thing is that he IS the Mentor of New Adventures (complementing the Sorceress)
Some are more active than others, but their importance can't be denied in MOTUC due to their roles in past and current continuities.
We have 3 of them already made. Eldor is just a new head, armor, forearms. The Oracle is just a new head and a repainted Orko body. Madame Razz, Light Hope and Master Sebrian are the only ones who'd require a lot of new tooling for MOTUC. Each chapter has a hero represented as an Action Figure(Powers of Grayskull has He-Ro, King Grayskull. MOTU has He-Man, POP has She-Ra, NA has He-Man... again) Each Chapter Needs to have the Mentors represented in Plastic.
