They fucked up Glimmer... Fuck the New She-Ra! *language*

Fuck the new She-Ra cartoon... fuck it in the belly button sideways. How DARE THEY FUCK UP GLIMMER!!
She LOOKS JUST LIKE ME!!! SHE SHOULDN'T LOOK LIKE ME!! Glimmer is supposed to be the Resident Child of the Rebellion, yet she looks like a "Mom"...
She has a "Mom robe" and a "Motherly" haircut and she stole Kurt Angle's leotard...
Not to mention fingerless long gloves...
Seriously, What the Fuck!? Why is she FAT!? She SHOULDN'T BE FAT!!
And no, it has nothing to do with the Goddess status she has at the House of Rants... It has to do with canon.
A Fat Princess leading a group of oppressed people to overthrow the evil overlords...
Again: How can you be oppressed when you look that you've been overthrowing pizzas into your stomach's dungeon?
Also, also: God, that outfit! If it wasn't for Adora and "Bow" standing next to her, I wouldn't have known it's Glimmer. Nothing in that Outfit Reads Glimmer.
Tyrone doesn't look too bad... He's supposed to be a bit older than Adora and Glimmer, but he looks younger. But he thing is that this is incredibly racist. Think about it.
Remember  the Bow/Adora dynamic...  Now apply it to Tyrone here... The black guy being friendzoned by the white girl... Tyrone ain't good enough for Adora and I'm willing to bet that Sea Hawk will be White, fit, and handsome. See where I'm going here? By trying to be "progressive" the show is being inadvertently racist. If Sea Hawk is white, the racism will double.
Now speaking of Bow, the character:
He was always "falling for all the girls" Especially Adora/She-Ra, not to mention that he can be VERY Chauvinistic... in some circles, "borderline misogynistic"... But we could get away with laughing at Bow's misogyny, because he was WHITE!! Having a white woman like Adora teach Tyrone how to be woke... a white woman talking down to a black guy...

Well, at least Tyrone put some effort in pretending to look like Bow.
But wait, there's more:

Catra: Jealous Beauty... Jealous, maybe... Beauty? I don't think so.  Why is she a furry now?
This reeks of MOTU racism... think about it: The Definitive Human looking Hordeswoman now looks like a Thundercats reject. The idea of having Monsters in human guise was lost on these fools! Now we have ALL THE EVIL HORDE LOOKING LIKE LITERAL MONSTERS, while the rebels all look like humans. Literally the NA Racism I made reference...
If she's already a "cat-Woman" why would she need to turn into a cat?

UPDATE:
Now that my Initial, Secondary, AND Tertiary Rage has subsided, here are my more calm thoughts:
Diversity and Inclusion aren't a bad thing: The problem is when you have established characters and you try to force them in those boxes. That doesn't gel well, because Either the Character's personality, or their new "Minority status" will suffer.
The First She-Ra image that looked boyish, well, it still does. There's a new She-Ra banner where she looks Slightly more feminine in her torso waist and hips proportions. you can vaguely see it also on Adora.

I am still Angry about Glimmer... They went full Animator's guide to appeal to Tumblr on her.
Glimmer is supposed to be a faint flickering light. You know how to represent a faint flickering light?
a short and slender girl... The complete opposite of the Tall and Plump Scootaloo wearing Kurt Angle's singlet. But I challenged myself to a quick and dirty edit:
Still not a fan of Glimmer, but I tried to give her some more cues that said: This is Glimmer. I didn't add a Tiara because messing with that wad of bubblegum on her head is a pain in the ass.

Speaking on quick MSPaint edits... Oh god, I missed ranting on my PC!!

I want to like this, because it's She-Ra... My beef is mostly with the "creative" team that seem to be more interested in filling up quotas and blatantly obvious agendas instead of making a great show. I want to be excited for this, but every little thing about it just makes me angrier on how they are screwing this up. I wish I could eat crow, but signs are pointing in the opposite direction.

    3. Wait... are you the same person? If so, it took you two years to reply, meaning you were 10 when you first started being a dumbass, which BTWmade you too young to be online in the first place. But I'll explain things to you, because it seems you lack reading comprehension.
They made Glimmer fat and ugly with the excuse of "not sexualizing underage characters" yet the main focus of the show was the "toxic, pedophillic fake incest with hints of bestiality relationship" also known as "Catradora". The "Mom robes" thing is a joke based on the awful sense of fashion that Glimmer has. Only on the final season, they had her wearing something that resembles Glimmer's outfit in the continuities that truly matter, in other words, not this one.

      Now on Tyrone:
I KNOW IT'S RACIST and I'm using it to mock the show and their fake Bow. Because they Literally made a new character but applied Bow's name. Now let me talk to you about this property. It existed long before Noelle Stevenson took a crap on it. It existed Long before you resided on your father's ballsack. When I made this post, long before the show aired, all that was available was these pictures and past continuities, all of them where The real redhead Bow tried way too hard to get into any girl's pants, mainly Adora and She-Ra's but they rejected his advances because he was such a good friend. Adora had eyes for Sea Hawk. So, Even back when he was white, Bow's personality was "problematic". So, AT THE TIME, I was worried that the real Bow's personality would open a can of racist worms... instead the show opted for COMPLETELY CHANGING BOW BOTH PHYSICALLY AND IN PERSONALITY, therefore making a new character, Tyrone. Also, Tyrone is an Irish name, culturally appropriated by black people. If you feel that's racist, then take it to the ones that appropriated the name or to the people who bastardized the character and only kept his name.

Again, body shaming fictional characters is an imposibility. They are NOT real. Second, in fiction, unlike real life, Every single detail counts as a way to describe the characters. Name, bloodtype, date of birth, etc. Can tell you a lot about a character (when an author does proper research) now on a Toyline like Masters of the Universe and Princess of Power, Names carry a lot more weight: Their names define their gimmick or role in canon.
He-Man = strong man, Skeletor = Skeleton man, Mekaneck = Mechanic or Mecha(nical) neck guy, Stratos = Flying guy, Beast Man = Beast Man.

She-Ra = Sun Woman? But if looked in reference to He-Man, one can make the connection to Female He-Man, Bow = Bow guy, archer, also a worplay on Beau which is Boyfriend, Castaspella = Cast a Spell -a, a woman who casts spells, Frosta = Frost-a, Female cryomancer, Catra = Cat-Ra, Cat Sun? Cat woman, Nettossa = Net tosser woman...
In Glimmer's case her name means weak or faint glow (toy had a faint glow in the dark gimmick)
The best way to visually represent weakness is by making a character be small and look frail and unhealthy thin.

      So, see you in 2023?

    4. Dictionary says a FAINT or WAVERING light or the action of shining FAINTLY.
The other definition is a FAINT sign of a feeling or quality, especially a desired one. The example used is a Glimmer of Hope.
Weakness is Literally the difference bewteen Glimmer and Sparkle (shine BRIGHTLY with flashes of light)

  2. It sucks not being represented and marginalized, and having others represented where you feel unjustly or unfairly left out. Heavy set and black people? For shame! Why, they weren't in my mid 80s cartoon featuring a nearly all cast of animated make believe characters solely created as a 30 minute commercial to sell action figures aimed primarily at young girls...
Now that times have, I don't know...progressed--- society realizes that it's okay to add diversity in shows. There were blacks and heavy people in the 80s too. Viewers, even. They rarely if ever get depicted as main characters that are heroes. So what's the big deal with doing it in the future. As soon as those who were then aren't depicted as those who are now, they get to feel like those who were marginalized and left out when it was new.

    1. Love that you chose Bow Tyrone as your username just to troll me. No snark, sarcasm or anything. I want the fake Bow to be forever known as Tyrone.

      Now for your word salad...
Tokenism. That is what you want.
Using your absence of logic, I can only relate to characters who resemble me or have a similar ethnic background...
Oh wait... That would make nearly EVERY cartoon and ALL Anime unrelateable to me.

Is it progress to turn most of the pre-existing characters (that happen to be white) into "visually diverse" tokens?
This first season, they had Netossa doing NOTHING until the final episode. The original black character was a prop for the entire season... is that progress?

My main beef is not "diversity", it's more with the redesigns being chosen poorly for the sake of filling up quotas. This is wrong.
Avatar: The Last Airbender has Diversity done right (shame that M. Nught Shyamalamadingdong's whitewashed abomination took a dump on it.)

  3. You know, maybe if you actually watched the show you'd understand more. You complained about glimmer being tall, well she is actually really short, she is just standing on something in what seems to be one of the only picture you could find of the show! Do some more research next time, maybe watch just the first episode with an open mind. You do realize that even though this is a remake of the original she-ra, which was targeted at younger girls, the 2018 remake is also targeted for younger/teenage girls. And you my bigot friend, is most likely a man in his late 30s or early 40s, who just wants all the female characters to be hot and sexy so you can jack off to them.
You seem like the person who'd be homophobic, so I'll just tell you that Netossa and Spinnerella are dating. Yay!! Is int that great!! There is also a bunch of other gay innuendos. So I just saved you the trouble of being suprised if you ever decide to watch this horrible horrible show. Oh and Entrapa definitely is somewhere on the autistic spectrum, so there you go.
If you complain and say that I wouldn't understand because I didn't watch the show, you be wrong. I watched the show all the time as a kid, I used to watch the reruns. And yes there are things that have changed but welcome to the 21st century!! You're not in the 80s anymore my friend, start acting like it.

    1. Check the dates, human being whose gender I won't assume. Original post was made as an off the cuff reaction to the "first look picture reveals" not the actual show... Research involves checking the date when the article is written.
I did watch the show with an open mind. Sadly, it wasn't a good She-Ra show. Take away the She-Ra elements and it has potential to be good. It's clear that Stevenson wanted to do something that was NOT She-Ra, but she was stuck with this.

And there we have it, the "you just want to jack-off" defense... plus calling me a bigot. All I need is Homophobic and Trump supporter to get Evil person Bingo! according to the perennially offended crew. Seriously? You're going with that as your (lack of) argument!?
This show ISN'T for little girls, especially with the incestuous undertones on that Catradora ship...
It's for Tumblr, which could partially count on the Teen demographic; but it's more for frustrated 20-somethings who still have some unresolved issues related to high school.
It is packed with tropes and cliches from high school comedies/animes... beach episode, prom, the one where a character is stuck in aprecarious situation with their ex, etc. The show almost forgets that The Rebellion is fighting a world war against The Evil Horde.

Bitch, I've KNOWN Netossa and Spinnerella have been dating since the 80s. I find it disappointing that this series Underused the Original black lesbian character and had her and her badly redesined partner be props for a joke and were only truly used in the season finale.

They had the canonical interracial lesbain couple and they don't use them. They name dropped a bunch of characters and gave relationship status in a throw away line on the stupid Prom Episode. What's this classic quote related to writing? Show, don't tell. Basic writing and they failed at that!
Yes, I'm aware of the not so subtle "gay innuendos". When Bow became Tyrone, he stopped being the showboating 'macho guy' who ended up being knocked down a couple of pegs and became the gay black best friend forever. Which brings me back to Netossa... if you needed a gay character that is also black, why not use the character who has been gay and black since the 80s?
Also, yay on turning the Autistic kid into a villain!! How progressive!! /S ( the /S? it stands for sarcasm)

I'll complain about you being a fucking moron, who doesn't understand how dates work. July 2018 is before November 2018, the latter being when I watched the show. I will also complain, about the unoriginal attempts to attack my character instead of the argument.
You implied I was a pedophile, because I disagree with the redesigns. Of all the characters, Glimmer should not be "the fat one". Angella, Castaspella, Frosta, and even Entrapta, could've worked as "the fat one". Season 2 could still give us a "bumblebee shaped" Sweet Bee.
You called me a bigot, because I dislike Tyrone... Well, I do dislike Tyrone, because he's so far removed from Bow, that he can easily be a whole new character. And I mean more than visually.
I hadn't touched Netossa and Spinnerella hear and you brought them up to attack me by calling me homophobic. You couldn't defend your point using the "problematic remarks" on my own post, so you had to manufacturea whole new stance just to attack me? Strawman argument...

At least you tried, even if it was repeating the same blanket ad hominem used to defend this reboot.

    2. This guy is nothing more than a racist, fat-shaming homophobe. Don't like the show? Don't watch it! It's clearly not for you and your hate, and the views are doing great without you! Honestly why is this even a page on the Internet? It's useless, not funny how it claims to be, not informational, biased, and very poorly designed.not to mention all the grammatical errors like wow, have you ever gone to a school? Good luck in life bud! Not!

    3. Can you pretend to be mature enough and defend your point without attacking the messenger?
No. You can't because you have no point.
I could point out all your criticisms against me and my blog come from your inability to understand all the subtle and unsubtle clues within the disclaimer, the blog's title, layout, etc. that have the following message: DON'T TAKE THIS BLOG SERIOUSLY! And you wouldn't get it.

Why don't you follow your own advice: Don't like my blog, don't read it. Your hate is not needed here.

      Delete
    4. Everything has been well crafted and thought out as a sign that states:do not take me seriously.
My blog has House of Rants in its title. First sign that is not meant to be serious. Rant comes from the old Dutch term 'ranten' whoch roughly translates to talking nonsense. The disclaimer plainly stated that everything is being exaggerated for comedic effect.
Add taking one of the uglier default free templates that screams Highly unprofessional.
Add typos and grammatical errors. (Some due to Glimmer fingers, English not being my first language and speech to text hating my Latin accent. Others are on purpose to simulate the craziness of a sleep deprived buffoon semicoherent rambling. Not to mention my Avatar is an impish/trollish caricature.)

Also, making Mountains out of molehills is how you get clicks on the internet.

Saying: "I feel the Glimmer redesign is not that good.It kinda makes her look a bit too sheltered from the reality of war." That doesn't give me any traffic. But if I make a few over the top remarks that at the same time are self-deprecating; People ignore the part that I'm insulting myself and latch on to the defense of the fictional character; That brings in the clicks. In other words, You fell for it. But to show there are no hard feelings, I invite you to defend the design changes for the characters but with one small caveat:
You can't use "diversity" or "representation" in your defense.

    1. You can't fat shame what isn't real. I can complain about a bad redesign more interested in filling up tokens than being true to the character.
Glimmer's redesign is an utter failure from ALL Angles (including Kurt, whose wrestling singlet was stolen by false Glimmer)
A character whose name is the definition of WEAK, shouldn't look "strong", "healthy" or in this case Chunky.
What's in a name? EVERYTHING IF IT'S A MOTU Character... (She-Ra is a part of Masters of the Universe, so the same naming conventions apply.)
-He-Man is super strong and ridiculously muscular.
      -Roboto is a robot.
      -Mermista is a mermaid
      -Angella is an Angel.
-Catra is a cat themed character.
      -Frosta is a cryomancer.
-Bow is an archer. His name also sounds like Beau, which made him a love interest.

Now if we go with the idea that the Horde is an evil force that has oppressed Etheria, then those who are rebelling against the Horde should, I don't know... look like they are an oppressed people?
Living on the lap of luxury and be able to travel through most of the world without much interference from the Horde makes no sense. (Then again, this new horde makes no sense)
From the POV of an Average Etherian, this Glimmer wouldn't inspire people to join the Rebellion. She is a symbol of excessive opulence who is trying to preserve her lavish lifestyle.
A frail looking Glimmer would have people flocking towards the Rebellion. Because despite her weaknesses, frailty and any other disadvantages, she still fights.

But her chunkiness isn't my main gripe... (It's the lowest hanging fruit to criticize in an exaggerated manner for comedic effect... AS STATED ON MY DISCLAIMER WAY UP ABOVE.) My main issue is that the redesign was made without a care about the character... ESPECIALLY The outfit.
She has ZERO elements that scream: This is Glimmer. If her outfit would have kept elements from past takes on Glimmer, mainly a Tiara, the design on her top, or at least her color scheme in a pattern reminiscent of Glimmer. Same thing can be said to most of the redesigns.

  5. It's so not racist. There are people of colour in the show. Not many but there are. In the show there are many humanoid species that take place and it means racism has no place whatsoever in the show.

Plus oppression takes a different form - the Horde always attacks other territories and tries to conquer them. That's oppression. I think you confuse definitions here a bit.

    1. Race swapping is racist. Doesn't matter in which direction it's done. It's both a form of erasing a group while insulting the other. In this case, it is an insult to black people. The sad part is that Tyrone is a completely different character from Bow, but is forced to wear Bow's hand me downs...

I'm using the term oppressed correctly...
Glimmer is supposed to lead the pople oppressed by the Horde.
The point I made was that a fat Glimmer leading the oppressed is not credible. Look at it from the perspective of the oppressed.
Remove the evil space NAZIs to replace them with a Monarchy that lived in opulence while the people starved and were enslaved. Basically sheep deciding that pumas are less evil than wolves.

Also, the most important point: the original post was written LONG BEFORE the actual show premiered.

    1. The toxicity of Catradora is off-the charts. Not to mention how they were raised "as sisters" became lovers.

But the worst part is that theu hijacked a canonically straight character to "make her gay" when they ALREADY HAD A CANONICAL GAY INTERRACIAL COUPLE in Nettossa and Spinnerella.Just USE THEM MORE!! But the series ended and it is what it is.

  8. This is probably one of the worst tales I’ve seen on this show. Out of all the things you could whine about, glimmers terrible character arc, catras mental health, lord prime getting rushed, ANYTHING ELSE IN THE SHOW. Instead you resort to being racist because a white guy who was only made to sell figures to teenage boys is now black and actually has a personality. Get a life. I recommend watching veridis joe. Specifically, the diversity isn’t political, all modern cartoons look the same, when will people learn to make quality animated shows again, and stop pretending 80s cartoons have better designs. And I’m not looking to get a snarky essay long reply from you so you can be MORE racist and cry about 13 year olds on tumblr, just watch the videos and move on.

The show ended proving me right since they completely changed Bow's personality, because a black character cannot behave like Classic Bow, otherwise it would be racist. 12. Hi there, I wouldn't agree in calling Glimmer fat but that's beside the point. I do agree with race-switching though. As a black woman who grew up in the 80s, I was ecstatic when Netossa was added on the original series but I was disappointed that she didn't get the shine she deserves. Things have changed since then but to me it's forced diversity that bothered me including race-switching. It's like giving us sloppy seconds. I really don't understand why they have to switch Bow's race and make Spinderella fat to appeal to black and fat audiences. To me, all this diversity in the new She-ra series is an afterthought and it reinforces stereotypes in these characters. Why not make a new show all together instead of remaking an old show and make all these unnecessary changes. Not only that, black and other POC creators don't really have a voice in any animated series because they're dominated by white people but yay diversity. I definitely agree with you on Catra and Adora. It's toxic as shit!! And another thing, why make some female characters such as Huntara and Scorpia so muscular that I thought they were men!! Geez, what an interesting show!

  13. You can have more than one version of a story. Think of how many times they redid Spiderman and Batman. Everyone has different opinions on all the movies and shows, some people don't like what they changed from the comic books, and other people appreciate how they needed to change it to make it fit.
If you got funding to do a reboot of a beloved show and did it EXACTLY the same, nobody would ever loan you money to make another show. It would be lazy writing.
My way of looking at it is that every reboot of any show ever made was just a fanfiction by someone with enough resources to make it happen.
I really enjoyed the show and finished the series for the second time just yesterday. You don't have to like the reboot, just watch the original, or maybe write your own fanfiction and post it here.

    1. Yes, that's partially true, you can have multiple takes on a story, but that doesn't make them all good.
I am allowed to criticize shows if I don't like them and praise them if I like them.

Being faithful to the source material doesn't automatically mean, in She-Ra's case Filmation 2.0. But, the harder part for a She-Ra seties is finding the balance of Selling Toys and making a compelling series that is 1/3 a Magical Girl anime styled series, 1/3 Barbaric Fantasy, and 1/3 Star Wars.

Lazy writing is taking an established property, changing the living hell out of it to fit the pre-made storyline you had that is NOT based on the property that you're "adapting". Like taking a pre-made concept of a wisecracking secret Agent who leads a squad of spies and making it a Spider-Man show. (I'm talking about Ultimate Spider-Man)

Also, what is it with you Tumblr folks not understanding the concept of chronological dates. This was an off-the-cuff reaction to a sneak peek/first reveal photo of Glimmer, LONG BEFORE THE SHOW AIRED! As In I Wrote This MONTHS BEFORE THE SHOW AIRED. When it did, I gave it a chance. It had its moments but it was mostly bad.

"Spinnerella: Ugh! She's fat... Before you start picking up the pitchforks and torches, ask yourself this:
What Logical thought process was used here? The One Character that has to be SUPER ACTIVE in order to use her Spinning Powers is FATTER THAN ME! Not to mention how her Outfit is Horrible and unflattering to her figure."
Before you mention "BuT lIzZo" I wasn't aware of who she was or what she looks like. My opinion still stands despite being now aware of Lizzo.
But my biggest gripe about Spinnerella is that she was half of the canonical lesbian interracial couple and she was grossly underused.
