I'm trying to squeeze out a few rants until Advent Calendar starts and take it easy until Late Dec. With D&D wave 1, TMNT Wave 11, and other stuff I can begin making some ICFTTC for early 2025 and begin that year's Advent Calendar. (The Technodrome will make it if Amazon sends it)
But, this is about sensible and logical variants. That means no Neon Talking Super Street Shell Luge Leonardo kind of variants.
The Turtles themselves:
There is a rumor that Super7 might implement the double jointed elbows/knees on the "Vintage inspired" line. If so, then the lazy solution is TMNT 2.0 New Articulation, same vintage Belts, but new Accessories:
Personally I'd use, action effects for the weapons.
Twirling nunchucks, sword slashes, twirling Bo staff, and Twirling Sai effect/hands (in Raph's case)
Longer cord on Mikey's grappling hook, adding the Turtle Comm, etc.
Other kind of variants they could do:
"Toon Inspired" TMNT:
Remember the GITD OOZE Variants S7 made?
Let's use those as a template. All Turtles share the same green color, have Bandana matching belt colors with silver buckles.
For accessories:
Signature weapons, Turtle Comm open/closed
Ooze canister with neon pink/purple Ooze.
Character specific accessories:
Leonardo: W10 meditating head, pointing hands
Donatello:
Retro Portable console (Shredder's Revenge) hands to use Said console, coffee mug from Splinter
Raphael:
Pizza on tray minus 1 slice, slice with hole to put on slice.
Michelangelo:
Determined head (intro shuriken deflecting scene). Twirling nunchucks.
"Mirage inspired":
These would require a bit more work. New belts and maybe new heads. Note that I said Inspired, and not Mirage Accurate.
Have the Turtles be in Toy colors with buckleless brown belts and using the wraps from WANDERING Leonardo in brown and all Turtles sporting the red bandanas.
That's just keeping them vanilla. We could add "Bay Turtles" in vintage inspired bodies. Hell, I'd take an April and Casey like that.
Splinter:
Most sensible variants would require a new head and Kimono/Kendogi variations.
Hamato Yoshi:
Here we can go for a Dual Universe figure:
Shirtless body with Foot Soldier legs and bare feet.
Accessories:
Bow and Arrow
Sewer Samurai Leo sword and scabbard
Soft goods Kendogi and Hakama in toon colors
Caged Pet rat
Art book
Sushi tray
Shredder:
Other than the Shredder clones, he's reduced to recolors...
Maybe an Oroku Saki reusing the body from the aforementioned Hamato Yoshi, but without bare feet and adding a few Oroku Saki heads.
(Toon Inspired and Mirage inspired. As a bonus, an Oroku Nagi Head could be added.)
Karai:
There is only one obvious variant:
Shredder Armor Karai:
Unlike NECA that uses Mirage Colors, I'd use wave 10 Shredder colors. Hear me out. Karai would have a shirt, for obvious reasons. I wouldn't mind a Free the nipple Karai, but Nickelodeon would mind. So new torso with shirt, Shredder blades and new head. I would try to Echo the Shredder palette:
Purple cape and bands, black pants and belt, silver or blue blades, and her new shirt and "diaper" would be red, as a nod to Karai.
Leatherhead:
No matter how you slice it he'd require a $65+ body for his variants. Let's dace it, some folks would.enjoy a slightly bulkier and longer Leatherhead and a Toon variant with Playmates level details would rock.
April:
We need an April 2.0 as the first April is shorter than Ninja April. A new taller April would correct that, not to mention a proper Toon Accurate head to use for her and a retooled vintage toy head.
Anchorwoman April:
Would be a nod to the Ravishing April AND give us the possibility to make a Black April.
Combine the upper body of this April with the lower body of April 2.0 and a new African American head and Boom. Black April would count as the second Mirage April.
Casey:
There's plenty of other sports that have gear for Casey to use. Then there's the Image comics Casey variant (American Flag Mask) a Casey with an Unmasked option. Sadly NECA's already working on the 9-5 Casey.
But there aren't that many characters that could be Variant worthy. No one is screaming for Scratch variants... but more people would prefer Genghis redecos with new weapons as Attila and Rasputin. Why isn't S7 exploiting this?
