It Came from the Toy Chest: Bow is now Complete.

Hordetober ends with an enemy of the Horde... I know we're in November but this one did not make it on time... It arrived to the PR hub on Halloween but it arrived to my PO Box in November... Ah, but you don't care about that! It's Kowl and stuff what you care about...

Technically speaking this is the Fourth Weapons pack (5th if you count the rack as a pack) but since this pack comes with Kowl, we could say that this review is for Kowl and a buttload of accessories.
The good news is that the "China" Tampographs are less intrusive this time. They are really noticeable on the Hurricane Hordak pieces.
Let's start with the stuff I MAY BE TO BLAME partially... OK, so you know Toyguru. The Mattel guy whose got a figure with his likeness and creator of The Mighty Spector... Right? You know that he does guest shots at various podcasts, answers forum posts (Like the Ask Matty) well, Every now and then I do ask questions. So, You know Castle This Month... I mean Grayskull is coming this month. Well many moons ago, with the arrival of Granamyr and his beautiful art, I suggested a redeco of the Weapons Rack for Granamyr with Gold Weapons... that could be used on Castle Grayskull if no someone had not gotten the original rack. Well, SURPRISE!! We got the Castle Grayskull rack stuff in gold... Coincidence? Most likely...

Now this next set of coincidental items may make me believe that it was MY FAULT... Green He-Man Stuff... I also suggested to Toyguru a  Grayskull Green UNPAINTED Power Sword to use as a "Master Key" for the Castle. Think about it Shoving your Power Sword into that hole COULD scrape off paint from it. If it was meant to be for NA He-Man, the sword, ax and shield would have been translucent green... Instead we got Ruben's second favorite color (a shade or two lighter than Clawful Mace Green) Power Sword.
That's Two out of two... Sadly, he did not get the Spector Whip in... DAMN!!

The Sir-Laser-Lot stuff in Metal... Who could use those? Well, The shield would look great with Sir-Laser-Lot himself... Everything he does is with red energy, but the shield is BLUE!? Screw that! He gets a Metallic shield like a normal Warrior. The Mace, well, if you don't like Rattlor running around w
ith King Hssss' staff like an idiot, that mace would work wonders. (If you didn't give him the snakemen mace) It suits Horde Troopers or the upcoming figure that based on his name, he's the evil master of Castration! The sword? Who could get that sword?

Freaking Blue Roided Out Stan Lee, of course!!

Blue BP She-Ra sword is for Nettossa... This thing is gummy as heck!!
Mattel could have used a bit stiffer plastic, cause that flaccid sword is USELESS for combat... and another missed opportunity to throw in Netossa's Headdress. Oh well!
Trap Jaw stuff for "Roboto"... They need more Silver and metallic blue accents... Could also work with Cy-Chop if you add some orange as well. there is not that much to say about these items. The reason they're here is the Trap Jaw colored Roboto stuff from the second Weapons Pack...

Now I wish that Roboto had gotten a removable Left Arm...

Hurricane Hordak Stuff in black: I think they are meant for Trap Jaw. I must disagree... They are suited for Horde Prime... Sure, I need to paint some silver accents to match my repainted Horde Prime..., but if you like you could paint the accents in metallic blue for Trap Jaw... Which will make the Thunderball Mace look MORE WRONG than before... If you know what I mean!
The Original Red Mace did not have any paint accents either, but if you want to make the Lightning in the balls pop on  the black version; you need to highlight the accents. This would also apply to the batwing blade. The four swords/fork thing can stay in plain black.

Now that I'm done with the old let's talk the new...
Strobobo-bo-bobobo, gets the gun that was cut... and DAMN! That thing makes Zodac's gun feel inadequate...

Speaking of Rattlor, he gets Armor... YAY 200X!! He now looks a lot better... He seemed "Naked" without the Armor. No, it's not because I like 200X looks more than some vintage looks. It's just that most MOTU Figures have some sort of armor or harness on... Thankfully I now have a non-naked Rattlor. Even if I didn't like 200X that armor is cool!

and then, there's Kowl...
what can I say about him... He's in vintage Toy Colors... Something that to this day confuses me since PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING POP in MOTUC has been FILMATIONIZED... Expecting Kowl in Filmation Colors is not a far-fetched thing... Kowl has 3 POA limited by his sculpt. Arms cannot do 360 Degree movement due to the body and ears. Head can barely move left or right due to the ears. Mattel blames Kowl for the lack of paint applications on everything else. Then again, they bumped up the price on the packs while blaming Kowl for it as well... I'd love to get an extra 2 kowls... One to keep in toy colors and the third one to make Red-Eye (Kowl's Evil Cousin) BTW, my WP had one huge QC issue. Kowl's head fell off his body once I took him out of the package... I popped it in for that pic, then repainted him into a more Filmation-like palette. Let's face it: Kowl is the reason to get this Weapons Pack...

Now if I were to rate this Weapons pack I cannot do it like a normal pack.
It lacks a lot of paint applications, Nettossa's sword is gummy as heck. QC issues are afoot... Mine had a Decapitated Kowl and Then there are THESE:

These happened to other WP4 buyers...
Again, Kowl is the only reason to truly get this pack and If you're not into him, you can seriously skip it... Without Kowl, this pack would be a 1 out of 5... Kowl makes it a 3.

If you dare, you should repaint most of this set... It'll make some items pop!

I used a Metallic Lime-Green color drybrushed on the bladed parts of the He-Stuff.
Nettossa's sword received a light drybrushing of Metallic light blue.
Trap Jaw Sutff got some accents painted in Metallic Blue (not the Light Blue)
The Granamyr stuff got a coat of gold paint followed by a wash of Burnt Umber to give it a tarnished look on the nooks and crannies of the weapons. After that dried, It received a drybrushing of Antique Gold to complete the Tarnished look. As shown way up above with the Balll-Mace, I did the same thing with the bat-wing blade.

Again, it's not that it's a BAD Weapons pack, but the item selection in the reused parts is a bit iffy... It needed to be 20% Cooler... Kowl did most of the heavylifting on this set to sell... They could have taken out the Granamyr, He-Man, and the Hurricane Hordak Stuff and put in other weapons that could have used a repaint...
Casta's Spellblast, Dekker's Mace, NA-He-Man's sword are a few examples of things they could have tossed in... I HOPE they overrule the ban on future Weapon packs, because Blade's sowrds should come in one and a Translucent Red Extendar Lance would suit Sir-Laser-Lot.

  1. Wow, you really got hit with sone QC issues here. Hate to see that. Your repainted Kowl looks great, though.

  2. Those issues weren't mine;I found them on the internet. A friend of mine's got a Gemless Nettossa sword. It's a shame that this WP is full of weird QC issues.
