It came from the Toy Chest: Old and Older made new Turtley Blimpy

Not mine... Ace Ventura
delivered mine.

The time of my Birthday has come and I got an Early Present... The TMNT Blimp... Sadly, my box was beaten up badly and I cannot take a MOC pic.

The 1980s Blimp was badass, especially the Glider...

The 2012 one? Not so much... the toy is a bad adaptation of the 80s one. It looks bad without the balloon attached.  It lacks the badass wings that allows the Turtles to hang on it.

The 2022 Blimp is the 2012 Glider and fins on then1980s Balloon.

It KINDA fits all Super7 Turtles.
This is made for 2012, which are a tad smaller.

While it's not a perfect fit for the Super 7 Ultimate figures, you can kind of make them fit. Personally I would go for using it as a single Turtle vehicle. A few days after I took that original picture, I finished giving it a crappy repaint, in order to make it pop a little bit. Basically painting a lot of the details that Playmates left in plain green. I was tempted to painted mostly gray silver and black as a nod through the cartoon, but I opted for some green elements to keep it as a turtles themed toy.

I honestly wish I had seen reviews before buying it... it doesn't work that well with the vintage figures either. They can't properly hang on to the controls. If you still want to buy it, better have a bike pump ready... it's a bitch to blow the balloon and smoking hasn't done me any favors. I quit a few years ago, but still, my 40 year old lungs aren't as good as my 9 year old lungs. Emptying the balloon is as much as a pain as inflating it.
It's almost passable as a Single Turtle
Vehicle

Now that I'm stuck with it, I could use it as a background item on Don's workshop if I ever make a turtle lair for the S7 figures. Thinking of a "pile of failed projects" where I can add tons of kibble, broken bits and ends from other toys. Maybe even make a tarp to partially cover the glider as a failed project.
This only works with the Turtles
themselves.  April won't fit or hold the controls... (they're a bit too thick for her hands)

I'm going to flat out say it:

Do NOT BUY THIS!!!

While the Balloon looks vintage it was modified to fit the 2012 glider and it WILL NOT WORK on the 1988 Blimp glider. The box shows some tabs to hang the blimp... they were eliminated on the final product.

The glider body is incompatible with 1988 parts, so you won't be able to replace the front wheels with the 1988 lower wings.
As I mentioned before it barely works with vintage Turtles and Super7's. If you can live with all those issues, then you could get it... but if you get disappointed by it, don't blame me! I tried to warn you!!

Splinter: Are you Winning, son?
Donatello: WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!
Splinter: Unbelievable...
Donatello: I-it's not what it looks like...
Splinter: You were having sex with that turbine...
Donatello: OK. It WAS what it looked like...
Splinter: Teenagers...

Playmates toys go home, you're drunk!

Playmates toys is making TMNT two packs! And they are... awful...
They are re-releasing the same four "classic styled" turtle molds from 2012 and Rocksteady and Bebop. The same Rocksteady and Bebop that I already reviewed Previously in an advent calendar. The ones that are inferior to NECA'S and Super7's. Joining them are a brand-new Triceraton and Shredder.

Shredder is literally coming with vintage weapons. Absolutely zero changes to them. I believe Shredder and Triceraton are part of the canceled figures that were coming for this poorly scaled line.

Zero effort put into this and it shows. I've already commented on how Playmates should step up their game in order to compete with Super7 and NECA.  This just shows that are content with doing the bare minimum. This level of incompetence makes Mattel look incredibly good! Mattel is actually pumping out NEW PRODUCT for both kids and adults. These are what, the 4th or 5th reuse of these Turtle molds?  These better be under $40...

It came from the Toy chest: Bite my tiny Mattel plastic ass!

Shut up and take my tiny plastic money!
Yes, it's the Mega Construx Bender and Fry...
And this is the part where y'all go:
"Nefty, where's the MOTU?"
To that I reply:
My Local Wal-Marts suck stocking toys. None of the MOTUs have arrived there. Hell, a prostitute was trying to turn tricks next to a Wal-Mart parking lot. She saw me as a potential John.but what do Prostitutes have to do with Bender?

Articulation
Don't expect Marvel Legends articulation in these guys.
Fry has a ball joint head, pseudo ball joint arns and legs.
Bender only has head and shoulders articulation...
For mini figures it's serviceable.
Fry: 3.0
Bender: 2.5

Paint and sculpt:
It's not great either but, it's once again, serviceable. Sadly both my Fry and Bender have derpeyes. The sculpt is decent for figures that size.
Fry: 3.0
Bender: 3.5

Accessories:
Fry:
Money (as in shut up and take my money)
Slurm drink.

Bender:
Money bag (probably stolen)
Mom's Motor oil drink

Both come with a stand:
4.0  for both.

Overall:
Both get a 3.33 as their final score. These are fine novelty pieces at best... but being in clearance for under a dollar each, helps them a lot.

Disappointment thy name is Mattel!

Toy fair came and went... We saw a lot of awesome reviews from most toy companies... and then there's Mattel. They did show a couple of Jurassic Park dinos that might be cool Brachiosaurus I'm looking at you. (GIGANTISAUR CUSTOM MOTUC DINO ANYONE?)

But do you know what boy band did not get any toys at toy fair?
Noelle Stevenson's pop cultural appropriation of She-Ra...
Allegedly, they are coming "this fall".
Season 1 toys will begin to show up by the time Season 3 out of 4 will be aired.

But Nefty, don't you hate the new She-Ra?

Indeed, I do loathe and despise this abomination, but if kids like it, then they deserve toys... because 20-somethings from Tumblr don't buy toys or comics... look at Cap'n Meh Vel whose comics have been cancelled nearly 2 times per year.

Seriously, not even a role playing Sword of Protection with light up runes? What the Hell, Mattel?

DCUC's final line-up is a tribute to ToyBiz 1989 Batman...

The only new She-Ra product is a Power-con figure and it's from CLASSIC She-Ra...

Storm Collectibles REALLY wants to rape my wallet...

We knew he was coming, but SC dropped this pic on Facebook...
Holy $500 glasses that need to be broken, Batman!
But wait, there's more... SDCC is getting another ninja...
We know how this goes... Another Klone ninja review, but this one may have a bit more personality and not be Black Scorpion... also, behold the birth of the Mortal KOMBAAAAAAAAT!! Tag for the House of Rants.

Shao Kahn is coming soon... TBH, I'm hoping we can at least get through the kast of 1 and 2 with UMK3 being the Ultimate (pardon the pun) goal.

Got the movie turtles against better judgement... *language*

I got lucky this time, but the hoops that Playmates toys forces NECA are a load of bullshit. All this stems from the fact that the NECA Mirage TMNT have blown everyrjing Playmates has done out of the water... and they're being Very petty about it.

I get that Playmates Toys doesn't want competition with their own brand. The thing is that Playmates caters to children... NECA caters to the Adult collector. Well, how about this novel idea: If Playmates doesn't want RETAIL COMPETITION from NECA,  then how about allowing NECA to do some ONLINE ONLY EXCLUSIVES from Mirage Comics, 1990s movies (possibly The Next Mutation), 1990s videogames, and maybe SOME of the 1987 cartoon. Playmates isn't doing anything with those segments of the brand. Here NECA would be acting as a sort of subcontractor and catering to a segment of the fandom that Playmates has failed to cater to.

Now I have to wait for the toitles to arrive...

Sore wa omocha no mune kara kita Gouki-sama

And before Gouki-sama attempts to challenge me into combat... I'll use the ultimate technique from the Saotome School of Anything goes Martial Arts.

So, Gouki-sama, the Man who has forsaken everything in order to become a true Master of Ansatsuken...
Now he sports a Lion King inspired mane... Which makes him look ridiculous, but that's the V-look...

Articulation:
Literally the same as Ryu and Ken. His body might be Bigger, but he's built like a shoto...
The head Articulation is obviously limited. Other than that, he can pull off most of his fan favorite poses.
5.0
Paint and Sculpt:
His sculpting is brand new. Somewhat similar to Ryu and Ken, but bigger. The bushy hair is ridiculously accurate to the source material... The paint jobs are excellent on the figure and make him pop in a good way.
5.0

Accesories:
2 extra faceplates
6 extra hands
2 dark hadou effects
1 gouhadoken
Prayer beads
SFV stand
Hadoken stand
Alternate Gi
5.0

Overall:
Gouki-sama gets a Perfect Score of 5.0 due to his nearly perfect nature. While I'd personally prefer a SFII or SFIII look for him, this is a badass figure...
Not only that, but he's very photogenic. If he had gotten a second Classic head, now that would've been amazing...

It Came from the Toy Chest: Warcraft Toys are still crap... Mmmkay?

I finally found where the heck I had misplaced my Durotan figure...
The MOC pic will be a stock pic since he was loose when I found him. I had him MOC, but lost the MOC pic.

I can't explain Durotan, since I'm not a Warcraft person... I got him because I thought he could work as a generic Goblin for MOTUC (I say goblin instead of Orc, because he's a shrimp compared to a MOTUC Figure)

Articulation:
17 POA and the head is NOT one of them... Déjà vu?
-Waist
-hinged ball joint Shoulders
-hinged ball joint Elbows
-wrists
-thighs but blocked by long loincloth
-thigh rotation
-knees

2.0

Paint and Sculpt:
Unlike Medivh, Durotan gets a LOT OF LOVE HERE... The details on his clothing are 200Xlicious. There is plenty of paint applications and washes on the figure. I have some minor quibbles with a few areas painted half-way through, but unlike Medivh, I won't need to do a full body repaint/wash.

4.5

Accessories:
An Ax. I feel like he could have had something more.
1.0

Overall:
Durotan gets a 2.5 as his overall score. While it's MUCH better than Medivh, his lack of articulation makes him a bit underwhelming. Had he been 7 inches, he would've been OK, but his puny size makes him even more underwhelming.

It Came from the Toy Chest: Fidgety Stress reliever.

If you recall the most glorious day in my life... Saturday for Bison. I mentioned that I own a Fidget Cube. I just discovered that this is a Bootleg...
Well, I've been with it over a month and it's gotten a bit dirty... One of the pieces was a bit stuck so I used some plastic safe lubricants to make the parts move and apparently no matter how well you dry and remove the excess lubricant it left a small film layer that dust, dirt and stuff stuck to it. No, I'm not gonna post pics of my dirty fidget cube! I will review it though.
I'll use diagrams as a poor man's substitute.
Also, it's easier to see all sides with a diagram than with the actual cube.

As you can see in the diagram you have ALL the sides of the cube at the same time. This diagram will be the main tool I'll use to talk about each of the cube's functions. I must also mention that after a month of use and abuse... Like falling from an escalator, my cube is mostly functional. I'll discuss each side in a bit.

Starting from the further left side... Your left, as you're reading this post is the 5 Button side. It has 5 buttons that click when pushed and they pop out when you release them. Apparently each button has a different sound/resistance. Like a substitute to a clicking pen, I found myself using this side a lot when in high stress... The official name for this side is "Click". Me I prefer the 5 Button side as a name.

The next side is the Metal Trackball and 3 "Combination lock tumblers" or Gears. I prefer to call them combination lock tumblers since they remind me of my childhood when I spent hours figuring out my dad's combination to his briefcases... (He had one full of interesting material for a teenage boy... Teenage me regrets drawing clothing over all those ladies using sharpie.) The official name for this side is "ROLL" because you can roll the trackball or the gears. Not a fan of the trackball, but the gears are my buddies.

The next side is a switch... You flick it on/off or try to make it reach a state similar to that of Schrödinger's cat... Where it's neither on nor off. I find myself attracted to this side a lot when bored. The official name is flip.

The next side is a small wheel that you turn with your thumb. it has a small nipple for your thumb to latch on to and allow you to spin it. This piece didn't want to move on mine until I lubricated it. Now it spins. I rarely use this side because the spinning is awkward. It's official name is Spin.

The next two sides are my favorite and least favorite sides of the cube. I shall start with the worst being the one at the bottom. It's official name is "Breathe" and it's simply a small indentation in an otherwise smooth side with nothing on it. It's supposed to be kinda like a worry stone, but it does nothing for me. I guess that this works with people who already use worry stones as a means to deal with their anxiety with a multitasker instead of a unitasker.

The final side is an Analog stick... That's pretty much what it is. While using an analog stick on a videogame is more fun, I gravitate a lot towards it AND try to match my movements to it when walking around.

the beauty of the fidget cube is that I can do things with it in one hand, while I keep my eyes and main hand in action for work. I can use the cube in my pocket with no issues vs using the Spinner.

I cannot rate it as an action figure or a playset, but these are kinda classified as toys, hence the it came from the toy chest. While you CAN PLAY with them, I see them more of a tool to channel some stress and nervous energy in a safe way. I recommend it to nervous folks. It's way better than the spinners.

It Came from the toy chest: CAWs are no longer exclusive to videogames pt.4

Roman Reigns is here with his Special Ops set...
Which is Basically Roman Reigns in Futuristic Riot gear with alternative Cybernetic Arms and a gas mask and Helmet...

Articulation:
Literally the same as past Caws.
Right out of the bat I must point out that THESE FIGURES have a LOT LESS Articulation than the elite Figures. No thigh cut, ab crunch, single joint knee, no bicep cut... They're like the Basic figures for kids. but semi modular parts.
3.0 They are great for standing around, but these ain't WWE Elite figures, so poses are limited...

Paint and Sculpt:
It's odd, but Roman Reigns doesn't suffer as much from missing paint applications... Maybe the cyber arms being molded gray without a silver wash can be mildly offensive, but he has plenty of silver accents to break down the green. As with other figures, the sculpt is functional, but not amazing. He doesn't look a lot like Reigns to me... He Kinda does, but is not as recognizable as say, Stone Cold.
3.5

 Accessories:
Tattoo sheet
Handcuffs
Shield
Stun rod
Extra Cyber Arms
Extra Gas Mask wearing head
Helmet
5.0 for Reigns here... It's rather obvious that he's a deluxe figure and here he shines...

Overall:
Roman Reigns gets a 3.83 as his final score. He's not that bad... It's just that he's Roman Reigns...
Also, ML Warlock arms seem to fit the Caws...

It Came from the Toy Chest: CAWs are no longer exclusive to videogames pt.3

What? Yeah, I ran out of CaW themes... By the time of Here Comes the pain, they just cycled through themes...

It's either that or make a Fred Durst reference from Just Bring it!

but yeah, let's talk the somewhat MOTU-ized Stone Cold Steve Austin... So much leather... He looks more like an Outlaw Rio Blast would be chasing down the Starband. Also, I see a little Mr. Slave in the look that Stone Cold has...

Same issues that plague other figures plague the Texas Rattlesnake. Lack of paint here is not as offensive as other figures, but there are plenty of parts that are obviously missing paint. The Sculpt is OK-ish with the parts needing to be accurate doing a functional job. Not perfect but passable.
4.0

Accessories:
Decal sheet, chained hook weapon, vest. 3.0 Like Sheamus, Stone Cold is a basic figure so he has less stuff by default.

Overall:
SCSA gets a 3.33 as his final score. I blame the less than stellar articulation and lack of paint applications on the figure. With some parts from the Rocker Set (would need to get 2 of that one) I could make a Custom Skeleteen with that figure and Stone Cold...(Not a 100% accurate Skeleteen though...)

May 25, 2017

It Came from the Toy chest: CAWs are no longer Videogame Exclusive Pt.2

Here's Part 2 of the CAW series Review... Sheamus...

No need to go into further detailing here... Sheamus is acting as a Celtic Guardian... Me? with some parts swapped with another CaW he'll be Sheamus of the Steady Rock...

Articulation:
Right out of the bat I must point out that THESE FIGURES have a LOT LESS Articulation than the elite Figures. No thigh cut, ab crunch, single joint knee, no bicep cut... They're like the Basic figures for kids. but semi modular parts.
3.0 They are great for standing around, but these ain't WWE Elite figures, so poses are limited...  Cape's a bit stiff...

Paint and sculpt:
Due to his sandals, he has a bit of paint in some of his body parts, but there's a lo of areas that could've used some paint and didn't get any paint.
I think he's 100% new parts.
4.0

Accessories:
Decal Sheet, shillelagh, Cape... but to be fair, he's a basic character, not a deluxe figure like Sting, or HHH. 3.0

Overall:
Samus gets a 3.33 as his overall score. For generic Filler Fodder he's not that bad. Not to mention being on Clearance, because there is no way that I'll pull a Merchant from RE4...

In other news... By the time this is published... I'll be there... I'll be ready! Never your fear... Now don't you fear! I'll be there... Forever and always I'm always here!! It's kind of WWE related... It has The Rock in it! I'm gonna try and see Baywatch... Please Hoff, have a decent cameo in this...

May 23, 2017

It... CAME... from the Toy CHEST: Caws are no longer videogame Exclusive... Pt.1

The stilted... DELIVERY... of the Title... is mostly due to... TAZZ... and... MICHAEL COLE... brought... to you by... Double U... Double U... Eff! Smackdown! Just bring it!

OK, not really... I just wanted to make a reference to that game... since it was the first game that brought a mostly functional Create a Character mode.
I got a couple of Create a Superstar figures, mostly to use as generic characters for MOTUC... The other part was because of KMart...
Disclaimer: The Sears Holdings Corporation is not sponsoring this review, nor paying me to do it.
With that said, the caws were on clearance + 50% off from their clearance price and I had some Shop Your Way Rewards points that were reaching their expiration date. So, I bought some stuff and the caws were among the items I bought. The other stuff is just normal household items like a Turkey Baster, a whisk, some pens, toothpicks, K&Y jelly, Some memory foam insoles, double A Batteries, a pack of condoms, duct tape, Friskies Party Mix, Baking Soda and some Menthos.

First on the list is Sting... I mean Shadow Vigilante... With Sting head and "Tattoo sheet" (Translation: Stickers. wait, no, they are tattoos for real... but not to be used on people.) You can kinda make a cheap assed version of Sting with his Crow Knock-off shtick, or you can make a Generic Bird Dude. You can also use the Caw Packs that I've reviewed in the past... Or other Create a Superstar figures.

Especially with the rigid coats...

Paint and sculpt:
Cheap ass doesn't begin to describe this. Some parts seem to be modded older parts, others seem new... The Normal WWE Figure heads are on ball joints that were almost MOTUC compatible. (remember my MOTUC Superman review, well, for some figures you have to do the same thing to use the WWE heads on MOTUC bodies.) Speaking of MOTUC... Those wings are Angella's but made even crappier to fit WWE figures. So DCUC still lives!! (Cause Angella's wings were reused from hawkgirl.) Paint job is barely existent... 3.0 because the sculpts are at least decent...

Accessories:

Temporary decal sheet
extra head
2 Armors
1 mace.
4.0

Overall:
Sting gets a 3.33 as his final score. I knew he was going to be a bit bad, but didn't expect him to be THAT bad... Maybe if I combine some parts from other caws, I could make a henchman for Marzo... Daedalor: Count Marzo's Winged Warrior.

Feb 3, 2017

I am one of the Chosen Ones, according to the Loyal Subjects.

I am one of the 28...
That's right, I am the owner of an Anti-Eternia He-Man...
Still, no Teela or Evil Lyn... I have 2 red Beastmen... DAMN!

It's a bit underwhelming. These are mostly repaints, a bit expensive, for blind bags, but they are adorable as heck! Can't wait to see new characters... and if I'll Ever get a Teela.

also, I wonder if "Mr. Professional Writer" has one?

Oct 17, 2016

It came from the Toy Chest with Pillowy mounds of mashed potatoes

Stock photo because camera issues.
Shame that my camera USB cable is MIA
Of course I'm going to make an Uncle Phil Reference on this review...

That's because I'm talking about the Foot Clan Set from NECA.

It contains: Shredder, an Utrom, 2 Foot Ninja and a Foot Elite That's 4 figures and a super accessory.

Right out of the bat you'll notice that these guys are small compared to Other NECA items... That's because they're meant to go with the 2007-ish TMNT and the 2009 April O'Neil that I already teased.

The second thing you'll notice is that these guys are pretty much the same buck slightly tweaked for Shredder and the Mystic. If you own the Arcade Game Foot set, you might notice a lot of reused parts from that set.

The Third is that they Overdid the "Comic Book-izing"... I mean look at the NECA Turtles
Stock Photo because I repainted mine in 80s toys inspired palette.
Look at the swords on Leonardo.
They can pass off as normal Katana from any other line.
Look at the Foot Clan Weapons...
I rest my case.
Even the "Comic Book-izing" on the Turtles themselves isn't that drastic. That kinda makes them clash a little bit...

I'm getting this out of the way before I start reviewing them, otherwise I'll harp on it incessantly.

Do I NEED To explain the Shredder and the foot?

So, there's this dude named Oroku Nagi, who was Shredder's Older Brother. He also was a Foot Clan Ninja, like Hamato Yoshi... Yes, that Hamato Yoshi... The same one that in some continuities is the Owner of Splinter, but in others he IS Splinter. So, Nagi had a beef with Yoshi, because This Tang Sheng lady was in love with Yoshi, but not with Nagi. Yoshi was forced to Kill Nagi to protect Tang Shen. Due to Yoshi Killing Nagi he was forced to leave the Foot Clan and moved to America. Oroku Saki, Nagi's younger brother had his revenge and killed both Yoshi and Shen. Saki the rose through the ranks of the Foot Clan and became the Shredder. The Ninja are just generic cannon fodder. The Elite is a much better fodder... Also, the Shredder dies in his first appearance...

Articulation:
Seeing these figures are Ninja, I did the Seiza Test. The Shredder did not pass, due to his armor. (It would mess up the blades on his armor. They are super soft and warp super easily.) Then I tried the Iconic Mirage Shredder pose.
This pose appears on the package but my camera did
NOT save the package pics.
Shredder Failed big time. His lower half of the Tunic impedes movement and he lacks a fully open hand to do the pose. The Teaser Pic I used on an earlier rant is the closest I got.

Now, here's a rundown of the articulation.
they also have a boot
cut... whoa.
As you can see the Foot has a decent range of Articulation. The only main PoA Missing is the Ab Crunch. Since All figures share the main buck... more on that on the Paint and Sculpt Section. Their articulation is Virtually the same. Shredder being a bit restricted due to his shoulder pads. The Lower Neck Articulation is kinda frozen on my figures. I'm not going to push it.

Foot Ninja: 4.0
Foot Elite: 4.0Shredder: 3.5

Paint and Sculpt:
This is why I wanted another set of NECA Turtles... even Bootlegs
Because it would have stopped me from wanting to
paint these Foot Ninja in 1990 movie colors...
Black for most of the foot.
Tons of Metallic Red For Shredder and I can't do that.
There is not much to write about here, since the Sculpts are based on the prototypes made by the Four Horsemen Studios many moons ago... 4 Horsemen are Amazing at capturing the 2D look and make it 3D.
Now the paintjob is rather simplistic. Most of the pieces look like they are molded in the same color plastic as they are. Probably the straps are the only painted parts. As I said, my only issue is with the thickness of the "ink lines" on them.

4.5 for all.

Accessories:
Hoo boy we have a lot of these here!
We have:
2 Extra hands for each Ninja (8 hands total)
We have a strange Looking Kusarigama
1 Pushknife
1 Shuriken
2 Katana
1 Halberd
2 knives
1 Articulated Utrom (2poa)

16 accessories. Basically 4 per figure... Too little for a 7 year hiatus. I mean the normal turtles* had:
Their weapon(s) 2 Extra hands, a Diorama Piece and a Pre-Mutated Turtle. Mike and Raph had 3 Projectile Weapons. (Mikey 3 sawblade shuriken and Raph 3 throwing knives) Donatello had the TCRI vial of Ooze.
I know that asking for a second Oroku Saki Head would have been too much, but the Thermite Grenade seems fair game, or a set of open hands for Shredder like in the iconic Mirage pose. I mean they don't even have a Base, which totally could have been a Generic Manhole cover with a peg for the, foot to put, uh, a foot and act as a stand.
5.0

Overall:
Playmates should release this Splinter
The Foot Clan gets a 4.44 as the Final Score. Which is like SUPER UNLUCKY in Japan... It's a nice set and ALMOST rounds up the CORE CORE CORE CORE TMNT Characters. Now Splinter and Casey could Round up the Set... I'd take them both from NECA, but I can't deny that that Playmates Splinter looked nice for a Playmates figure.

I like it even if it needed a little bit more OOMPH! to go beyond way awesome... At least I nearly completed the NECA TMNT...
