I am, of course talking about Shredder. Remember wave 2 Shredder? Well, Wave 8 had the Silver Shredder Repaint...
I honestly got him, because I'm going to make a "toon inspired" Shredder... once I get the proper piece of grey cloth to make his tunic. Seriously, Super7 should've added one from the get go.
Where do I start with this:
This figure is based on an unreleased variant for the Vintage line. It was literally the same trailer we got but instead of blue spikes silver spikes. It never got a release but in 1993 we got a cartoon repaint of Shredder. I feel like Super 7 should have gone all the way and make the cartoon repaint by giving us a soft goods tunic we could have a two in one figure. But this figure is Literally a repaint of Wave 2 Shredder, more expensive but with less accessories due to Playmates being a little bitch.
Articulation:
Since this is a repainted Shredder, the Articulation is essentially the same as the previous Shredder. There's not much I can write about here.
4.5
Paint and sculpt:
I'm torn here. I like some things, I dislike others... so let me explain:
Sculptwise, I hate that both heads are the exact same Shredder head we already got... I know that the redecos are lazy repaints with 1 new piece, but really an Ooze canister? They could've easily made a Slice and Dice Shredder face with the Metal Mouthguard and pop the basic helmet giving us a Mirage styled Shredder or Cartoon Shredder depending on how they painted the Skin. I'm not fond of the Purple facemask on the alternate head. Thinking of painting it either silver or gray.
Also, I hate the purple diaper.
4.5
Accessories:
Kama
Push knives
Dual katanas
2 shuriken
Ooze canister
Alt head
Alt Hands
Alt cape
Eh... feels a bit lazy though... I know they said redecos would only have a single new item, but a strip of grey cloth with a hole for Shredder's neck would've done wonders.
The sculpted torso old extra Wave 2 Shredder ended up getting a weird color repaint to make a Shredder clone. Also, I darkened the soft goods tunic a bit.. |
Overall
Shredder redeco gets a 4.33 as his final score. It's not a bad release, but the price increase and LESS STUFF INCLUDED leaves a sour taste in my mouth... literally a strip of grey cloth with a hole in the middle improves things dramatically. I even made it fancier when I used fabric glue to give it some impermeability and slight weight to the fabric. (Not to mention to stop it from easily fraying to oblivion.)
For 2.0 I'll use cotton... doesn't fray that easily.
Now the question is: "How can super7 make me triple dip on a "vanilla Shredder" once again?
