Do they even Tomb Raider? Open world and Tomb Raider makes as much sense as Turn-Based Street Fighter. The new Tomb Raider is rumored to be an open world game set in India. I don't mind that the game is set in India. I think it's a Nifty idea. It's the open world of thing that worries me. Open worlds that require usage of vehicles in Tomb Raider scares me.
I know boats, Snowmobiles, and ATVs were used in classic Tomb Raider games... but those were SMALL SECTIONS and not a huge part to transport Lara across the large map. Then there's the part about recruiting allies that help you during missions... sounds like service game multiplayer bullshit.
Not all games are meant to be open world games. Tomb Raider is one of those. The claustrophobic feeling of Classic Tomb Raider is something that needs to be rediscovered. Leave the open worlds/sandboxes to RPGs, Vigilante level Superhero games, Fantasy games, certain stealth games. Action Platformers/puzzle gamrs shouldn't be open world.
