Many years ago, Superhero movies were self-contained adventures without any crossing over... Batman didn't coexist with Superman, while Superman didn't coexist with Martian Manhunter, and Wonder Woman didn't coexist with Aquaman. Until recently, MARVEL was able to prove that you could have a cohesive cinematic universe with various superheroes...
DC made an attempt, but the executives at Warner Brothers fumbled multiple times. From their ineptitude of trying to micromanage after promising "artistic freedumb" to directors all the way to choosing the worst directors ever to make Superhero movies... Not going to say any names, but Zack Snyder was the worst thing to happen to the DCEU. Nice guy, shitty director. The Garbage Human known as Joss Whedon is a far better superhero movie director. So, after the failure of the Snyderverse, WB is desperate trying to get a hit by throwing everything AND the Kitchen sink. They're trying the Multiverse approach and having self-contained stories with these characters. We saw that with Joaquin Phoenix's "Mentally ill Man who dresses like a clown and the only relationship to DC is that some people named Thomas and Martha Wayne die in the end."
Now we have The Batman, with Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. This has nothing to do with the DCEU AND its director already stated that there will be no Superman or fantastic elements in "his universe". This is a double edged sword. On one hand, that means that stories can be told without worrying about a big continuity that must be kept, but on the other hand it LIMITS the stories that can be told.
