Fantastic Four: First Stumbles: a rant

The Corman produced F4 is STILL the best Fantastic Four Movie. Then the Tim story movies, well, okay, the first one, not rise of the silver surfer, then this one, then rise of the silver surfer, then we get the Josh Trank abomination.

I didn't **HATE** the movie, but I didn't like it.
  • Ben Grimm was barely there.
  • Very little Action.
  • Johnny was more Peter Parker than Johnny Storm.
  • I understand why Shalla Bal was made the Surfer, but it felt forced. The villain being a fun house mirror reflection of the hero syndrome.
  • Galactus was dispatched too fast and the battle had little stakes.
  • So many villains wasted just to get a worse rehash of Rise of the Silver Surfer.
  • No Chemistry between The team other than Pedro Pascal with Vanessa Kirby... mostly because Pedro had anxiety.
  • They wasted Mole Man.
  • It was obvious that the movie was more of a Filler movie than truly introducing the F4.
But at least it lacks Doom...

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck!! He appears in the post credits scene!

OK, who let Haley Joel Osment watch nip/tuck?

And why is Yuna Dancing to the theme of Charmed?

Wait... Jessica Alba, Charmed, Nip/Tuck... one of these things is not like the others.

Norman Osborn? Now I'm confused.

Oh, OH! Fantastic Four! That's the Jessica Alba clue! Also, doesn't the water on the Flipper logo look like a pair of buttcheeks with the buttcrack hovering over the pp? The Norman Osborn thing is because in the F4 movie Julian McMahon is ripping off Norman.

Wait Julian McMahon is dead!? How!? Fucking Cancer.

My condolences to friends and Family. Now here would be the part where I fondly reminisce of his work and wax poetically. Not this time. I have zero fond memories of Mr.McMahon... not the WWE guy, the actor who played a shitty Doom... mainly due to a shitty script. My brother is the one who religiously watched Charmed, so he could wax poetically about Cole.

A fantastic 4 food review.

Pic from my box. It's in Spanish so you know it's sourced locally.

I Got the fantastic four pizza from Little Caesars. It tasted like a Little Caesars pizza. But I have complaints. Gee, what else is new?

Before I get unto the nitty gritty, my pizza had a pale bottom. We could be the pale bottom twins. If I have to use a pizza steel to reheat the pizza to get some tanned bottom on the pizza, you failed. But to be fair it happens at times to all pizza chains.

Good thing Ben was born normal and became The Thing as an adult. If you know Jew know...

Putting Ben Grimm's foreskin jokes aside, he is of the Jewish faith. Little Caesars is most definitely NOT Kosher.

$10.⁹⁹ in Puerto Rico + taxes.

Also, Ben wouldn't be able to eat this pizza.

Pepperoni on one side, Italian Sausage and Bacon on the other. Jews can't mix meat and dairy, but the most offensive meat to them is Pork, because it's unclean as fuck! What I'm getting at is that each quarter of the pizza represents A member of the fantastic four.
  1. Sue is pepperoni because she likes the Richards Sausage (and Namor's, and T'Challa's. Hell, she even tried using Parker to make Richards jealous.)
  2. Johnny is similar to Sue's because siblings. His has Jalapeños because he's Flamin' on! Not sure about the Pepperoni though. Are they saying the new non-womanizing Johnny is gay? Spoilers maybe?
  3. Then Reed has Italian Sausage and Bacon. Maybe the sausage is a nod to Victor's scarring and how his face ended up looking like spam after he put the hot Doom armor? The Bacon is his inability to save Ben.
  4. Ben is plain cheese because he can't have the best pizza toppings due to his Jewish faith.
Don't get me wrong. It was a decent pizza for a Little Caesars.Pizza; it just doesn't make sense for the fantastic four... from a comic book nerd perspective.

New Fabtastic Four doesn’t understand Johnny Storm

The actor playing Johhny Storm in the new Fantastic Four movie, Joseph Quinn doesn't understand the character. According to an interview he gave to Variety, Johnny Storm won't be a womanizing, arrogant douche... because that's "not sexy".

The Idea of Johnny Storm being this IRRESPONSIBLE SELFISH ASSHOLE IS to show the "dark side of the power". You know how Spider-Man is all about " With Great Power comes Great Responsibility." Johnny lacks the Responsibility part. He needs to mature into his powers. Maturing is a sign of character growth. Starting as an arrogant douchebag, who uses his fame as a hero to sleep around.

Before anyone tries to argue that it was the 60s. Remember, the 60s was the era of the "free love". Also the womanizing johnny is a trait that it's still around. A little while back, Doctor Doom Was about to make peace with the fantastic 4; because he was getting married. Then Johnny screwed it all up by fucking Doom's fiancée. I forgot the other part. He was seeing someone else and he cheated on his partner with Doom's fiancée.

Johnny needs to be a prick. I guess I'll wait for Fantastic Four to hit Disney plus and not watch It at theaters.

I still won't like Pedro Pascal as Reed

But Fantastic 4 might be the only MCU movie. I'll see this year at the movie theaters... right after James Gunn's Superman.

Before the movie comes out, I'm gonna say it right now. There will be a bunch of Gen.Z tik tok morons Claiming that fantastic four is a bad knock off of the incrediblesClaiming that fantastic 4 is a bad knock off of The Incredibles... I mean for the game Marvel Rivals. They claimed that Mr. Fantastic was ripping off Luffy from One Piece. Everyone knows that fantastic.Four came in the  sixties while One Piece came many years later.

We have HERBIE, the most hated Member of the Fantastic Four. Galactus is Galactus and It's not a cloud. Doctor Doom, I feel so good. Please don't fuck it up...

Feb 17, 2024

Fantastic four Cast is here.

I have no issues with the cast except...

Pedro fucking Pascal. Now, it's not anything Personal against the guy, but I feel like he's being overused. After Oscar Isaac dropped out of Metal Gear, people began screaming for Pascalsnake... Pascal is close to 50 and Snake is supposed to be 33 by the time of Shadow Moses. He might be a bit too old to play Reed if we're going for another 10 year set of phases.

But it's more of a Pedro Pascal overexposure thing. I'm seeing his face everywhere. I'm afraid of being intimate with a girl, I close my eyes for a sec and Surprise, It's Pedro fucking Pascal wearing a wig! I'm terrified of going to the Bathroom and Pedro fucking Pascal shows up Skibidi Toilet style. At least they discontinued Alpha Bits, otherwise I'd see him in my cereal!!

Kylo Ren as Reed Richards?

I'm not too sure how I feel about that. There's a rumor going on that Adam Driver is in the lead for the role of Mr Fantastic. Some sources say it's a done deal. With the Writer's Strike going on, I'm not so sure on how things will move forward, but I'm not so sure on Driver as Reed... He's a good actor and theoretically could play a great Reed Richards, but He's got an imposing physique that is a much better fit for...

DOCTOR DOOM!

Think about it. He has the acting chops to play complex characters and I know it might sound a bit like Typecasting, but his job as Kylo Ren shows that he has the potential to play an amazing DOCTOR DOOM! HE ALREADY LOOKS IMPOSING ON HIS OWN...
Now add the armor, the tunic and cloak and he's looking like he will make The F4 his bitches... Hell even the Avengers won't stand a chance against DOOM!! I just can't see him as Reed... John Krasinski or Miles Teller could play a more Reed Looking Reed than Driver...
At least Kylo as Reed is not as bad as the rumors for Ben Grimm... seriously, who would even think that casting Meg Griffin as The Thing is a good idea!? Hopefully Mila is telling the truth and this isn't an Andrew Garfield is not in No Way Home thing...

It came from the Toy Chest: Now you face DOOM!!

1996 second half of the year... I was in nith grade. My orthodontist had moved his office to Plaza Las Américas, the first indoor Mall in Puerto Rico and Largest Mall in the Caribbean. I usually was picked up by my father, since these medical visits ushered my weekends with him. This meant movie money, arcade money, 3 for $10 ToyBiz pre-ML era figures, and Marvel Comics money. Super Street Fighter II, KOF 95, shortly before X-men vs Street Fighter and Darkstalkers 3 appeared on the scene, there was a game that drew my attention... no it wasn't X-men: Children of the Atom... Spike! Roll the clip!

Marvel Superheroes drew my teenage eyes and took a lot of quarters from me. Since, I had a retro Doctor DOOM and I just got the Marvel Legends "Infinity War" Thanos, I thought to myself: Why not review these two as part of a tribute to Marvel Superheroes? Here's part 1 of Said Tribute: Doctor DOOM!

Victor von Doom: Scientist, Dictator, Sorcerer, best son in the Universe.  This figure is in essence the same as the Super Skrull wave Doctor DOOM but with a little cloth piece on his neck. And if I were lazy I would just li k the old review and call it a day.

Articulation
Nothing has changed from this figure to the previous version of Doctor Doom. He possesses a decent range of articulation slightly hindered by his long skirt. I'm a bit disappointed at his inability to sit on a theoretical Latverian throne. Unaware that the old Marvel select figure had a throne but I never saw that figure in person.
5.0

Paint and sculpt
The sculpt it's the exact same as the previous version since this is just a glorified repaint. While some details like Belton rivets are unpainted on this figure The Brighter colors make him look a bit better than the modern version of Doom.

Like I mentioned on the previous version I might need to get some gold paint to touch up the embossed letter D on his gun holster. I'm currently deciding whether or not I'll paint the straps and the rivets. At first I was thinking of removing the silly Cloth piece, but I ended up liking it a bit more that I thought I would.
5.0
I'm aware of the Photon Array being pink in the games, but he has green effects, so I improvised.

Accessories
We lose the modern head but we gain other stuff.
-The Darkhold, and a book with the insignia of the Sanctum Sanctorum

-An Ultimate Nullifier in black
2 booster effects for the theusters on Doom's back
-2 Extra hands
-A Mauser-like gun
-2 magic effects in green
He has far more stuff than the Super Skrull wave Doctor DOOM.
5.0

Overall:
Based on my rudimentary scoring process, Doctor DOOM gets a 5.0 as his final score.

Saying that I had a lot of fun taking pictures of this figure is an understatement. The only way to improve upon this figure is to have multiple hands and additional heads. Since Doctor Doom can be a little bit overdramatic multiple hands would allow for more expressions. And for the extra heads I'm thinking normal Victor Von Doom without any armor on his face,  an armored Victor with a removable faceplate (like the old ToyBiz Doom)

Retro style Marvel Legends Doctor Doom... Sold Out

This is kinda lame. How can a preorder be "sold out"!? But, yeah, Hasbro Pulse... what can I say? Hope for Third party sellers to have one? It'll hurt a lot less than trying to get a Chadwick Boseman Black Panther figure. (Ebay has gone insane with the overpriced T'Challa figures.)
 I know what you're thinking:
Same Doom from the Super Skrull wave, with the Ultimate Nullifier 2 books and flame effects? Totally not worth it...
Dude it's Amore vintage dr. Doom with a lighter green tunic and kick ass Fantastic Four vintage inspired card.
Getting him will make this to figure the actual Doom in my display and the previous Dooms would be Doombots.

I got to be honest this is a great way to refresh Doctor Doom but I would be more interested in a refresh of the Fantastic Four... 8 figures total: Hear me out:
Four 2 packs:
The F4 would be in their Light Blue and White versions.

-Reed should be a redeco of the Walgreens figure but with 2 extra new arms. (In addition to the normal extra arms that the Walgreens figure came with) a Mallet Punch arm like the ToyBiz figure had and the other arm could be stretched (not as exaggerated as the original arms) with interchangeable hand port for either the normal hand or the stretchy finger hand from the Super Skrull wave Reed.

-Sue#1 would be a Fully Visible Sue, a redeco from the Walgreens version with a second head based on her 60s short haired look. Ccessories would be invisible hand and effect from the S.Skrull wave Sue.

-Sue#2 would be the same as Sue#1 but in clear Plastic.

-Johnny#1 would be a Human Torch in the Kaine Body. Give him all the Flame effects possible.

-Johnny#2 should be a flame off Johnny on the Kaine Body with a couple of clip-on flame effects. He should have 3 heads: a Reuse of Modern Johnny heaf, a new Classic Johnny Storm head, and a redeco of the Torch head to have a flaming hair Johnny.

-Ben would be a redeco of the Walgreens Thing.

I know what you're thinking:
Nefty, you just suggested 6 figures to cover the Fantastic Four. What are the two remaining slots for? Oh no you wouldn't...

Yes, I am going to:

F4 She-Hulk! Getting a She-Hulk in scale with the new She-Hulk but wearing the Fantastic Four outfit she used to wear at the time.

Final Figure is Cryst  y'all know it's the Bombastic Bagman! He's only here because he wears a Fantastic Four uniform. Spidey Redeco in blue and black F4 suit with Namor feet.

The way I'd pack these is:
Reed and Sue#2
Sue#1 and Johnny#1
Ben and Jen (not a Bennifer reference)
And lastly Johnny#2 and Bagman.

Odds and ends May 28, 2020: Laputa, Superman, and other stuff.

Well, I've been trying to find a copy of Laputa: Castle in the Sky with the first Latin American dub. Sadly whatever found is that most of the copies of the movie have the Spanish dub from Spain. Many years ago I had already seen Castle in the Sky, but it was the English dub the one where, colonel Muska was played by Mark Hamill and Sheeta was played by Anna Paquin. But this movie has a secret. The floating Island of Laputa has a darker meaning in Spanish... Thewhore Island= La isla de Laputa.

This means that in Spanish speaking communities there have been a couple of memes about Laputa. Most of them involved Spain dub, I want the Latin American one for a personal reason. The Latin American dub, puts a bit of more emphasis on the Puta part of Laputa... this makes Pazu, the boy who finds Sheeta sound like he's REALLY TRYING WAY TOO HARD TO LOSE HIS VIRGINITY. And the voice actor is also the same one who voiced Ryoga Hibiki on the earlier episodes of Ranma 1/2.

It seems that Henry Cavill is back as the Man of Steel. WB had him sign up for some stuff. Personally I'd rather keep him as Geralt of Rivia... but if he's reprising his role as Kal-El I hope that they keep Hack Snydurr as far away from this as possible. Let's face it can pull off a decent Superman when Snyder is not directing. Also, WB hasn't gotten their stuff together with the direction they're taking with the DC universe. On one hand they want to move away from the Snyder disaster that wad the DCEU, but on the other hand, they keep dragging that rotting, festering corpse.

No freaking way... Josh Trank doesn't want to do a Trank4stic cut of his abominable 4 movie. That's a commendable move. I applaud him for that. Why submit the world to such torture off and even longer version of fan4stic.

Spider-Man is getting a new Funko POP. It's based on the 60s series. It's the infamous Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man meme. Comic book purists can use this as cheap Spidey clones for their POP collections.

It came from the Toy Chest: Super Skrull? More like slightly better than average Skrull...

Finally, I'm able to get a Super Skrull figure.
I missed out on the ToyBiz one... and that had 3 variants circulating. Or the Hasbro Skrull vs Kree Skrull warrior with "super skrull-like pieces.

So, Super Skrull: a Disgraced Skrull warrior who sought a chance at redemption became an experimental super soldier for the Skrulls. Now endowed with the powers of the Fantastic four, K'lrt fights to restore his former glory. Or something.

Articulation
Despite having a slightly larger body the super skrull has standard Marvel Legends articulation. Even the alternate arms that simulate the powers from the Fantastic Four have double jointed elbows.
4.5

Paint and sculpt
He looks like a classic interpretation of the skrull Warrior.  and if you have moderate knowledge of the Marvel Universe you can easily recognize him as a skrull warrior the super skrull depending on which limbs he has on.

If I were to nitpick about him I'd say that the green on his face is a bit too dark for my taste.
5.0

Accessories
While technically speaking he is the accessories for the rest of the entire wave he does come with alternate arms.
A rare event for Build a figures.
5.0

Overall
Super Skrull gets a 4.83 as his final score. It's a great score for a character that's not necessarily the greatest character ever. But as a classic Fantastic Four villain that is not Doctor Doom he's a nice addition to the collection.
Now if this figure was to be re-released further down the line as a single card at deluxe figure I would love to see an extra head or two and maybe some extra arms. Invisible thing arm, flaming stretched arm. Maybe the super skrull could get a head in mid transformation.

IT CAME FROM THE TOY CHEST: ONLY DOOM CAN SPEAK IN CAPS!!

NOPE! CAN'T SEE THIS GETTING ANNOYING PAST ONE SENTENCE! Both a master of science and Magic Victor Von Doom suffered an accident that left him scarred for life. He blames Reed Richards for this accident add in a Von Doom over reaction he puts on a red-hot iron mask on his face to cover his miniscule disfigurement. Whether you believe the Small scar story or the full disfigurement story, point is that Doom made an arcane armor by combining Magic ands Science for Revengr against Reed Richards.

Unlike the previews reviews I'm not going to compare Doctor Doom to the infamous Iron Man... despite both of them being Victor Von Doom.
YOU'RE TEARING ME
APART, LISA!!
or
RICHAAAARRRRRRDSSSSS!!
Your pick.

Articulation
This Doctor Doom has all the articulation that a Doctor Doom figure needs... except maybe sitting on a Latverian Throne.  we kind of need one of those.
5.0

Paint and sculpt
Here is where the entire wave blew most of its budget. Aside some internal engineering pieces this Doom is 100% new sculpt. The paint job is super effective on him.  The only nitpick I have with his paint job is that they didn't paint the letter D embossed on his gun holster. I had to get the old paint brush and give it a little gold paint.
5.0
The infamous Ironman Victor head fits him.

Accessories
BAF piece
Mauser-like gun
Extra hands
Extra classic head
This Doctor Doom figure comes packed with tons of stuff compared to the other figures in this wave.
I kind of wish he had gotten a couple of extra accessories as a bonus.
A Hand that can hold the faceplate of his mask.
2 heads (one with the tiny scar and one with the disfigurement.)
A hand that could hold a Latverian Chalice
A pair of hands blasting energy from his fingers.
As he currently is he gets a
5.0

Overall
Doctor Doom gets a 5.0 as his final score. With reasons  being,  He absolutely kicks ass. He has a vintage styled head and a modern Doom head so you can display him with any era of Fantastic Four. Some people may complain that his lower tunic is a bit too long, which I kind of agree with, but at least it's not super short that I can see the latverian royal jewels.

It Came from the Toy Chest: The Thing just loves to fight! Call the four!

With Ben we finish the Fantastic Four. Ben Grimm as a pilot an explorer and the ever-loving blue-eyed thing of the Fantastic Four.  he's also worshipped in Puerto Rico... well, on Earth 616... not Earth 1, which is our Earth. I'm running out of things to describe Ben Grimm with.

This figure is literally a watered-down version of the Walgreens figure with a new head and belt.

Articulation:
Since this figure is literally I repaint from the Walgreens figure the articulation did not change at all. It's similar to monster Venom spot the main differences the ball joint at or so instead of having a normal ab crunch.
4.0
Not my thing, but it's an
Unmodified Thing.

Paint and sculpt:
as you might have noticed my thing looks different than the average thing. That is because I had to repaint mine.
I used to like four different shades of orange and yellow Also I gave him a light wash of a burnt sienna color to fill in the cracks. The reason for the multiple shades of oranges and yellows watch to keep in the shade in gimmick, but doing it with a little bit more subtlety than the official figure. It's a shame that I couldn't match the colors of the Walgreens figure because I love this new head sculpt more than the official headphones from the Walgreens figure.
4.0

Accessories:
BAF piece
No extra head and no extra hands only the heads for the super skrull. it feels a little bit underwhelming.
1.0

Overall
Thing gets a 3.0 as his final score. I don't know what were they thinking with the weird shading and not painting the cracks. I get that budget why you say couldn't squeeze in the extra open hands that the Walgreens figure had, but I kind of feel like they caught a lot of corners on him.

It came from the Toy Chest: Johnny is the Human Torch... (is this a rerun)

Continuing the Fantastic Four "week" we have Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. Unlike his teammates, he's the only one who was made on a different body than his Walgreens counterpart. The new Johnny is in the Kaine Body, while Old Johnny is in the Bucky body. But I'll explain it when the actual review is done. I'm pointing it up on the intro because it's one curious Thing. Also having to explain again that Outer Space Adventures cosmic rays made Johnny a flaming guy I've done that before already.

Articulation:
As I mentioned, this Johnny being on a Spider-body Gibson a bit more articulation than his previous Walgreens figure. Butterfly joints are awesome. The butterfly joints give the figure some out of the range that the original Bucky body did not have.
Now I kind of want a flamed on Johnny with this Kaine body. It would be very cool for some flame related poses.
5.0

Paint and sculpt:
The outfit looks just like Reed's so I won't go into much detail here. The face looks decent and it captures the look of five Northern are at Johnny Storm but I feel there's something off in the face. It's the cheek on the smirking side. Looks a bit like if he had a stroke.
4.5
Spider-Man and his
Amazing Sausagefest!

Accessories
BAF piece
Extra hands
Weird flaming effect for forearms.
I personally would've liked a second Flamed on head, or at least have Johnny's hair and eyes looking flamed. (Translucent orange head with painted skin.) The "flamed hair" would allow for the same light piping effect from Transformers.
3.5

Overall
Johnny Storm gets a 4.33 as his final score. It's actually a decent score for what's supposed to be the weakest figure from the set. While my classic styled vintage Johnny Storm custom is a decent place holder, I would like to see a classic styled Johnny Storm to compliment the Walgreens set. (That also frees up a Reed buck for a Bagman custom) I also would like to see a flamed on version of the Human Torch using the Kaine body.

I didn't take many pictures because he's just a bland vanilla "secret identity" figure. Also the default figure having only two fists makes it a bit too hard to Posen various funny or social styled pics. And since we're talking about depowered versions of characters I would love to have IB powered Iceman and Colossus just to name two characters. I know it's a bit unrelated but since we're talking about a powered off Johnny Storm I thought I should bring that up.

Mar 28, 2020

It came from the Toy Chest: Sue can fade from sight... again?

It seems that it's the Invisible Woman's turn.
Honestly I'm a little bit miffed that this Sue Storm is completely visible. The Walgreens figure has an annoying partially invisible arm.  But more on that later. now this is the part where I talk about how badly miscast was Jessica Alba for this role. Chris Evans totally nailed it as Johnny Storm. Sadly he nailed it a lot better as Captain America so now he can't play Johnny Storm. So basically so you can turn invisible and can create invisible force fields around her or others.

Articulation
Like Reed before her, Sue shares her body with her Walgreens counterpart. The same issues that plagued the Walgreens figure are present here. Which stem from the inferior female body. But for the sake of fairness Susan is not going to be making crazy martial arts or gymnastic poses like a spider person.
4.5

Paint and sculpt:
Like I mentioned before the invisible woman has the same body as to Walgreens version; there are not too many complaints their scope they even use the same head sculpt, though it lools a bit softer. (Moldong issues?)
Only the feet and her hair are new.
4.5

Accessories:
BAF piece
Small Invisible Shield that plugs into her hand.

Unlike her Walgreens counterpart which had an extra hand and Herbie the robot. The Invisible Shield this Nifty but it's not mind-blowing. Personally an invisible head would have been a lot better.
3.0

Overall
Sue gets a 4.0 as her final score. She's a bit of a meh! figure.

Mar 27, 2020

It came from the Toy Chest: Reed Richards is elastic... deja vu?

Walgreens vs Modern
I know that the custom Johnny Storm shown is not
the Walgreens Human Torch. I simply used to custom
instead of torch for the sake of having a Johnny vs Johnny
I believe that Fantastic Four could use a week of Legends reviews, if it wasn't for the fact that this wave is so underwhelming.
Read me charge scientific genius and leader of the team of explorers known as The Fantastic Four. According to the 90s Fantastic Four theme song He's elastic. Then again his nickname is stretch.

Articulation:
Everything the Walgreens Reed Richards can do this one can do as well
That is because both figures share the same body and the same limitations from the Walgreens Richards apply to this figure as well.
4.0

Paint and sculpt:
While both figures share the same sculpt, there are some slight differences between them. The head sculpt on the bearded Reed is not the same as the classic Reed. They honestly do not look like the same guy. The sculpting on the shoes is the other big difference.
4.0

Accessories:
Here, the Walgreens Reed is far more... Fantastic.  the ultimate nullifier extra stretchy arms are a lot better than hands with stretchy fingers.
but remember when I mentioned that this Reed shares his body with the Walgreens Reed?
Well, if you made either a Johnny Storm or an amazing Bag Man out of a spare Reed Richards body you should have some stretchy arms laying around.
The blues look better in person
If you have two patients you can repaint them and have a modern Reed with the real stretchy arms he deserved.
otherwise you're stuck with creepy long fingers.
aside the creepy fingers he comes with a piece for the super skrull.
4.0

Overall
Reed gets a 4.0 as his final score.  I understand that getting a build a figure and two brand new sculpts on the same wave can drain the budget a little bit. I just wish that his official accessories would have been a bit better.

May 9, 2019

It came from the Toy Chest: infamous Black Sabbath song

Has he lost his mind? Can he see or is he blind?
And I better stop there, since I'm talking about the OTHER Iron Man... The one and only DOOM!!!
Reed: The package says Ironman
Sue: but that looks just like-
Johnny: Doctor freaking
Thing: Doom!?
Yes, Doctor Doom was Iron Man for a little while... We can blame... take it away, Victor...
RICHARRRRRRRRRRRRDS!!!
and The half kREE warrior, Carol Danvers. Aside Ironheart, Dr. Doom was Ironman for a little while, and this Walgreens exclusive encapsulates that version of Doom... Now can we get a REAL Victor von Doom?

Articulation:
He's literally a repaint of the pegwarming Iron Man of the
Doom: I have reformed.
Reed: I don't believe you.
Ben: It's Clobberin' time!
Okoye wave.
And he feels just as stiff. The cape limits a lot of the poses... and he looks utterly stupid without it, because the head has the hood attached.
4.0
Doom: Shame that it
came down to this.

Paint and sculpt:
Aside the modified head with hood. He's a literal repaint of the Okoye wave Iron Man. The extra arc reactors are PAINTED ON and they look crappy because of it. He's molded and gunmetal gray plastic with a few green accents painted on. The extra Victor Von Doom head looks nice actually.
4.5

Accessories:
Pink Lightning ×2
Repulsor blast ×2
Extra hands ×2
Extra unmasked head

The lightning is super soft and floppy.  Think it's a reuse from Storm.
The hands and repulsors are reused from Iron Man.
The head might be new.
5.0

Overall:
Doctor Doom pretending to be Iron Man gets a 4.5 as his final score. It's a pretty decent score for I figured that I really didn't want to will be honest I was swayed by the extra head. Hopefully hospital will released a classic Doom further down the line that could use that second the head.
Doctor Doom has used an Infinity Gauntlet before so how about an Infinity Gauntlet Dr. Doom variant for Walgreens? Or hell, a Doctor Doom with a Time Platform...
(Literally a square poece of plastic painted in metal on one side and in Trippy Timey Wimey colors on the other.

Oct 23, 2018

It Came from the Toy Chest: The Thing just loves to fight!

Call the Four! Fantastic Four!! and you get the drill. Ben Grimm is the final member of the 4 figures from the Fantastic Four that were made as Walgreens Exclusives. There are rumors of a Doom and a Super Skrull, but Magik from an X-Team is the next one. Mystique will follow.
Ben Grimm, Pilot, cursed by Cosmic Rays to become The Thing. A Man shaped pile of rocks that is super strong, but not exactly great for cuddling.

Articulation:
Ben has a bit less Articulation than his Toy Biz Counterpart (Series 2).
Ben: It's Clobberin' Time!
While, yes he has less articulation in some areas, but in other, it surpasses ToyBiz.
His Articulation is reminiscent of Monster Venom... Aside the ab being a pseudo ball joint.
4.0

paint and sculpt:
Here I am torn... I hate his head Sculpts... They remind me a bit too much of the Hanna Barbera cartoon. Don't get me wrong, They are Great Sculpts. Maybe it's just being too accustomed to The Toy Biz Ben that his face clashes a little bit with me. His body is FAR BETTER than the Toy Biz one from a visual point of view. His rocks look as multiple rocks put together instead of a semi featureless body with cracks sculpted into it.
There is very little paint as he is mostly orange sporting blue trunks. Most of the paint comes from the wash given to his body to highlight the rocks. Aside one of his hands looking a bit "muddy" the wash is really good.

accessories:
Jugg: I'm UNSTOPPABLE!!
Ben: Take off his helmet webs!
Spidey: TRYING!! Thing's more stuck than
the pages of Johnny's Victoria's Secret
Catalog!
Cap: I understood that reference, and ew!
Extra head
Extra hands
As basic as we can get for a Ben Grimm Figure. Taking into consideration that as a Walgreens exclusive, he used a boatload of new tooling... which is rare since most of the Walgreens exclusive figures are barely a New Head and that's it.

Overall:
Ben gets a 4.67 as his final score. I think that's the BEST we can get from a Ben Grimm unless Hasbro decided to use a third set of hands with articulated fingers. Now to figure out how to give him a little cigar... Screw Quesada, My Thing Smokes Cigars... and so does my Logan but all his hands are fists.
Now to find a head to make a Flame Off
Johnny...

It came from the Toy Chest: Galactus is coming.

Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer and 1st KNOWN Herald to Galactus. He's a Walgreen's exclusive figure and he's mine at last!!Oh snap! I kinda covered his synopsis in one sentence... Guess I'd better Start with the review.
Articulation:
Standard ML fare WITH Butterfly pecs, that allow a better range in poses for surfing. Submariner would have benefited from this torso for swimming poses.

Paint and sculpt
He is REALLY SILVER!! He seems to be molded in silver plastic painted shiny silver. He's not as shiny as a chromed Silver surfer, but I can almost see my reflection on him. I was wearing pants and my Topless Robot Shirt when photographing him... The buck might be the new SP//DR Daredevil, but I can't tell until I get one.

Accessories:
Board, 4 extra hands, 2 energy thingies. The hands are reuse from Namor and Spidey, but they suit him. The Energy thingies WON'T STAY on his hands. Mine are super loos and I was able to get a pic before they rolled around. Sadly, the board only has 1 peg for his feet, which makes him a bit awkward to stand. The other thing is that his board lacks a stand, which makes it a bit boring to display unless you use fishing line to have him hanging and you WILL NEED Blu Tac for his other foot.

Overall:
Hasbro KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with him... If it wasn't for my minor nitpicks with the board and accessories, he'd be perfect! He gets 4.83 as his final score.
