Adult Swim, the mature block from cartoon network, which is owned by Warner Brothers, delisted Shenmue from their lineups and confirmed via tweet that Shenmue: the Animation has been canceled DESPITE having enough viewership to warrant a second season.
Shenmue was another victim of Zaslav's budget reduction strategy... Even Young Justice, another successful show, got the ax as well on HBO Max. I've mentioned before that Zaslav is heavily against scripted shows and prefer low budget Reality TV crap. Hell, even Batman and Bugs Bunny weren't spared by Zaslav. Now instead of airing on HBO MAX, these 3 projects are looking for another service to be shown...
Can you imagine the notion that Warner Brothers is having THEIR MASCOT moving to some other service!? This is like Nintendo saying that they won't make a Mario game and they'll let Microsoft have an Xbox exclusive Super Mario game.
If WB under Zaslav was able to do this bullshit with Bugs Fucking Bunny, that they can shenmue is nothing in comparison... but the funniest thing... not haha funny, btw, is that both the game and Anime ended up in a Shenmue 2 Cliffhanger. It's like fate... Shemue isn't allowed to have a break.
