After the Superior Spider-Man deal, Otto ended up in a fat clone body and he was working under Ben Reilly, the new Jackal, when he got his hands on a new body. Half Parker, half Otto. As the unofficial 4th Parker brother, Otto goes by the name Elliot Tolliver, the Superior Spider-Man. Sometimes he's the Superior Octopus. But he One More Day'd himself into his fat body again.
So let's talk about the short-lived Superior Octopus:
Articulation
This is a new Spider-body. So, he was put to the 3 poses test. I know this is the third time this month I explain it, but not all my readers are regulars, so the newbies need to understand the test:
A Spider-Man figure that can pull 3 iconic poses, he can "do whatever a Spider can".
The poses are:
the iconic Spider-Man crouch
The Web Yo-yo
Capcom fighting games stance.
He can barely pull off the poses And the diaphragm joint is welcome, but the ab crunch is Very important for a Spidey figure. Shame they didn't use articulation similar to the Lightning collection rangers.
4.0
Paint and sculpt
The sculpt is a new "naked body", so there is not much to discuss. On the paint department my figure doesn't seem to have any issues but I've heard that some people have gotten some figures with bad paint jobs. Your mileage may vary here.
5.0
accessories
No extra hands and unposeable tentacles!! To make matters worse, the tentacles are flailing in incoherent poses. We also get the arms for the demogoblin.
3.0
These tentacles are not superior. |
Overall
The "Superior" Octopus gets a 4.0 as his final score. The lack of hands bugs me because it rubs the character from Dynamic expressions especially since he's wearing a full-face mask. Also as a derivative spider person he lacks the essential hands web shooting wall-crawling and punching. What bothers me the most is that the tentacles are useless and to make matters worse I would have to buy four Superior octopuses or octopi to have one decent figure to display. Unlike classic fat Otto where I only need two figures to get a decently displayable Otto.
