As I reach the end of my journey in the Remaster of the original TLOU, and being disappointed with the sequel, here's what I'd like to see in the third game:
-No past characters:
No Ellie, No Tommy, No Abby, no one from the prevous games. There is no need to drag past characters just to treat them like crap for the sake of the story.
-Completely new Location:
The Mutated Cordyceps strain was allegedly brought to the US from tainted crops from Central or South America. Well, how about Mexico, various South American countries, Europe, or hell, if they need a more confined area, How about say, Puerto Rico? And no, this isn't because "I'm Puerto Rican". It's more of an "It's the smallest of the Great Antilles islands" thing, not to mention that by being a US Territory, FEDRA would have more opportunities to "experiment with the populace" before applying controversial measures on Mainland US. Which would be based on reality, since the US has used Puerto Rico as testing ground for controversial Birth Control experiments, weapons training involving depleted uranium weaponry on the municipality of Vieques, just to name a pair of controversial experiments that DID happen in the real world. The tropical and rainforest climate could bring new breeds of infected.
But when you think about it it makes sense. Under normal conditions one can walk from the westernmost point of the island to the easternmost point in roughly two days. It can be padded to 5 or 10 with usage of TLOU-isms (broken roads, FEDRA Checkpoints, QZs, a detour to the Arecibo Observatory... as a futile attempt to communicate with anyone outside the island) Now I know what you're thinking: "They speak Spanish in Puerto Rico"... that is easily fixed. Puerto Rico has 2 official languages: Spanish and English. TLOU2 is in 2038, 25 years after the Cordyceps Outbreak. Enough for the younger generations raised in the QZs to speak English. Those who were alive in the pre-outbreak world still speak Spanish, but are fluent in English, because FEDRA only speaks English. Outside the QZs Spanglish would be spoken by survivors/hunters... and maybe a Seraphite-like group could be pure Spanish speakers.
The "Joel type" character should have been born roughly in the early 1980s in order to have them be old enough for the TLOU era, which puts them in their 40s. The eventual Kid sidekick being born roughly in the mid-2020s so they could be close to Ellie's age in the original.
Now before I get crucified for saying "Joel and Ellie", I'm not asking for carbon copies of them, but, the Adult and kid dynamic works pretty well: TLOU, The Mandalorian, Lone Wolf and Cub... so I'm suggesting to keep it. Maybe the Adult is a woman and the kid is a boy (R34 folks might be slightly disappointed here... I said slightly) the point is not messing with what worked, but fixing what didn't. Also, with purely new characters, Druckmann can tell "his story" without ruining established characters.
BTW, the TLOU Puerto Rico originally started as a joke, but I saw potential in it.
