And he must let the world think that he is dead until he can find a way to control the Raging Spirit left within him. Seriously a Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno Hulk 2 pack would be all sorts of awesome... a Nicholas Hammond Spider-Man would be cool too, but here I am to talk about the First Appearance Hulk and Bruce Banner 2 pack. I believe this might be my final Marvel Legends purchase because, as it is they are getting rather expensive. I was on Walmart early yesterday, and I saw Chasm and he was 30 plus change before adding Sales tax, which in PR is a whopping 11.5% making me more selective in what I'm buying.
The Vitruvian Hulk... |
Bruce Banner, Scientist. He was testing a Gamma Bomb for the US military. When a young man entered the testong range, Banner put himself in danger to save the young man's life. The bomb was detonated and Banner got an accidental overdose of Gamma Rafiation. Originally his body suffered a startling metamorphosis at night. Like a modern dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde, Banner became The grey Hulk. After becoming green, the metamorphosis was triggered by emotipns. When Banner got angry or outraged, the startling metamorphosis occurs. The creature is driven by rage and pursued by the US Military and even international Superheroes. Bruce Banner has gone through a shit ton of retcons and the character that these figures are based on is dead.
Classic portrait of the mind of Robert Bruce Banner. |
Before I start, this review will focus more on Banner since Hulk is a repaint of the Hulk vs. Wolverine 2 pack that I didn't review, but I kinda made up for it with Maestro. One hand, 2 heads and a pipe is all that's different from the green Hulk. Articulation, sculpt is 90% similar.
According to David S. Gouer, this is a representation of Hulk wanting to have sex with She Hulk. |
Articulation
As I stated earlier, Hulk reuses the 80th Hulk body, so his articulation is similar to him and Maestro.
Hulk: 4.0
Solomon Grundy was born on a Monday... Sorry wrong grey hulking beast... Who the Hell thinks Orange shirt with blue pants looks good!? Puny Banner, or course!! |
Banner on the other hand is built on a modified Suit body (non removable arms or legs unlike the BAF suit body) I had to use a little bit of baby oil to make the left leg move. Since the lab coat is opened, he has a bit more articulation than normal suit figures.
Banner: 4.0
Paint and sculpt
Hulk, as I already stated, reuses the previous Hulk body. The heads make the difference. They're not exactly accurate to the source, but a slightly more realistic take that can fit with more modern looking figures.
Hulk 4.5
Puny Banner... is as puny as Puny Parker ... |
Banner on the other hand is more accurate to his first appearance cover art. While Accurate, this is a smidge disappointing. Hopefully we can get a single carded Banner, preferably a post-hulkout Banner.
Banner 4.5
Accessories
Here Hulk Shines:
Extra hands, alternate head, busyed pipe, torn shirt.
Hulk 5.0
Banner on the other hand he gets glasses. His hands aren't removable
Banner 1.0
A lonely Banner walkng while looking back... If Hasbro made a Bill Bixby Banner figure... You know what I'd link |
Overall
Hulk gets a Smashing 4.5 as his final score. Articulation often ends up being the weakest point on big hulking figures like, uh Hulk.
Banner on the other hand gets a Puny 3.17 as his final score. With both figures being essentially kitbashes, it's a bit disappointing that Banner came with so little.
Now by taking both scores, I'll determine the 2 pack's score. 3.84 mostly due to Banner being disappointing.
Personally a single carded Banner should have:
Torn purple pants and barefoot. The torso should be a thin Shirtless body and arms. For accessories, a second angry head, a third partially green head, 2 sets of extra hands, normal fists and partially green fists. Lastly a torn shirt overlay.
