Random thoughts on a GI Joe videogame

Throughout the years there have been many GI Joe games. From the NES era all the way to Modern Mobile game era... Even the Arcade had a GI Joe game that was a Space Harrier clone... to be fair, most GI Joe games are Contra Clones.

While, yes, Contra was a fun series, it's  not the end all BE all for GI Joe. A Modern GI Joe game can be SO MUCH MORE than a Contra Clone.

Lazy response: Take COD, or Battlefield and clone it, then wrap it in GI Joe skin and boom! Easiest GI Joe game ever. Not going to lie, it would make a lot of sense, but this is me we're talking about. There's no way I'm going to go with this idea. First I'm not a fan of first-person shooters... Doom being an exception, not a rule.

Well then, what would I like to see in a GI Joe game?

I DO want some run and gun action, but I want some exploring... Not Full Full open world, but various explorable mission hubs:
For example: Mission 1 takes place in a jungle and you can explore this jungle "sandbox". Not only you'd have the infiltrate the Cobra Base and clear it out mission, but other objectives as well, like say Mine clearing... I know it sounds a bit MGSV-like, but I have to admit that MGSV IS a huge inspiration for this game idea. Eliminating Jungle Patrol could ne another mission. Stopping Croc Master from stealing an endangered Crocodile's eggs, etc.

One of the hubs could be Springfield, where, of course, the main mission is to stop Cobra Commander and liberate the town, but... if you happen to wander as Flint to the town's soccer field...
You CAN unlock a trophy/ achievement  and a cutscene reenacting the PSA (with the modern game VAs), the real ones, Hasbro, not the parodies... Not a single Pork Chop Sandwich here...

Just like in MGSV where you can use characters who aren't "Big Boss" and they have stat differences, the same would apply here.

Duke would be your "all-around guy" with balanced stats everywhere. If Duke manages to get a heavy gun, he would slow down a little due to its weight. Roadblock, on the other hand, doesn't slow down with heavy weapons, but his health recovery rate might be slower, and not so great at stealth. Scarlett would be nimble and stealthy, but heavy weapons slow her down a lot. She'd be the only one to use crossbows.
Snake Eyes would be "Big Boss" with OP stats with all weapons.  Gung Ho would be better in hand to hand combat and going, well gung-ho instead of stealthy. Spirit Ironknife would be somewhere between Duke and Snake Eyes, but with enhanced Tracking abilities. Shipwreck would be the "weakest character" but he can move silently on water, hide easily underwater, and is super effective at stealth takedowns/kills.

Each character should have a "special ability" or two to make it a bit different from Metal Gear.

Let's say Gung-ho can have a 5 second invulnerability while charging towards the enemy.
Lady Jaye can easily sabotage vehicles and is the only one who can repair vehicles when not in battle.

Spirit would have special tracking abilities, not to mention the ability to gather herbs and natural sources of medicine/food.

Snake Eyes has Arashikage Reflexes that allow him to take down multiple enemies quickly. He can also use Timber for distraction/attacks

Roadblock can improve the health recovery effects of food items. He's also the only Joe that can move downed power lines. (Can be used for various purposes...)

Scarlett would have enhanced sniping (think a sniper version of Dead Eye).

Shipwreck can use Polly as a decoy to distract enemies... in addition to his aquatic abilities... while not good enough as Deep Six, Shipwreck does the best he can without a bulky deep diving suit.

This is just a small set of examples of possible things to do with the characters to differentiate each Joe.

The idea is that you have your Joe Team and you go through each zone conpleting nissions to move the story forward until you face Cobra Commander and win... you CAN beat the game only using 1 Joe through the entire thing, but to reach 100% completion, you'd need to use all Joes, Beat Cobra Commander and unlock the "Epilogue Mission" to receive the True Ending.
The idea is to have a "Mature version" of GI Joe without going Edgy Teen's idea of Mature, while retaining some of the silliness from the 80s. Kinda like a Hideo Kojima Game without Hideo Kojima's philosophical pretentiousness.
