The Funko POP! Bubble, uh, popped

And now, Funko is pulling a move straight out of Atari. By that I mean they're dropping about 30 Million dollars worth of Funko Pops into a landfill. Funko claims that it's to save money on inventory costs.

But we know the truth... it's not just that. They could donate the excess product to programs like Toys for Tots and have the losses as tax write-offs, but they won't do that. Why?
Scalpers and Speculators are Funko's main POP! buyers. They need these vinyl figures to be "limited" or "rare". If Funko suddenly donates millions of POP! Figures and "floods the market" then their "rarity" decreases. By destroying the product, Funko is using "Artificial Rarity" in an attempt to keep the Funko POP! bubble going. Despite having way too many of them, I still don't fully get their appeal.

Have the Funko POP!s become the new Beanie Babies?
